Birds vs Bears Basketball

Watched until 22-9.
Switched to Independence Day for 12th watch.
Wife says, "Check score, maybe a comeback."
42-18. PHUQING 42 TO 18!
Back to Independence Day.
Between women's season circling the bowl and this left coast massacre ...
:mad::confused::confused::D:D:p:p. All I can do until spring.
At least the NIT is still in play for men.
Hope don't lose Freeman to portal but wouldn't be shocked in the least.
Do hope Fran gets on with the obvious longing to hang with his boys.

It's been down hill since Ralph left for Oregon State. Not a ISU fan but thought Clones vs West Virginia would be a good game, but it's on ESPN+.

Had to check back in.
Only down 30!
Maybe I shouldn't think about NIT ...
UCLA is an NIT team and this is sample?
Wow, their fans attend with enthusiasm like Iowa.
C'mon guys ... Half empty arena ... Just like playing at home.

Has there ever been a worse half of basketball in the history of Iowa basketball? Honest question.
Don't remember the details, but in the Booby Knight days at Indiana, McDonalds had a deal where the Hoser fans with ticket stubs got a Big Mac if they scored over 100, and got free fries if they held the opponent under 50. Well, they beat the Hawks 100+ to 49, or thereabouts, but definitely under 50, which entitled game ticket holders to a full meal.

The difference being that unlike UCLA today, Indiana was highly rated that year.

Iowa defense has ALWAYS been terrible!! We're talking 2 generations now.
Even Doc Tom's teams gave up the 3, but at least he had a notion of how to coach it.
Fran has NEVER had a good defense.

The lack of game changing pg play and a true big is killing this team
Thellwell is good. Harding is too small but has upside. Freeman is legit.
You're right about no size, tho. It's been a recurring problem under Fran. He goes for tweener "shooters" who are practice all-stars but struggle with consistency in games.
This team sucks at rebounding and - obviously - defense but mostly no size. Freeman has zero help inside and if the guys don't hit shots - which is more often than not - it just collapses.

If you are searching for answers for the men's basketball team it is going to take a long time to find them. This new college athletic environment makes it more challenging. What was possible years ago isn't possible now. I do not think it's possible to be a development program, which I feel is Fran's model. Iowa looked so physically immature the last two games and in a few others. Iowa just can't defend physically with the body types in the Big Ten.

The last two games certainly support your point regarding how hard it is to survive as a "development program".
UCLA’s top seven scorers are transfers from Oregon State, Oklahoma State, USC, Arizona, Louisville, Nevada and Utah.
All of USC’s top nine scorers played at a different school last season. Four of them are with their third different school.

I think Freeman might be the biggest head scratcher this season. He can look unstoppable for stretches and then be flat out awful. The difference between when he's playing lazy and playing with energy is so night and day.
