I don't think that it is a question of outdoing Houston. I think it is a question of timing. BG is a "current" candidate to replace a retiring coach. Barta has not even fired Lick yet. Hence, assuming he does so, he still has to secure funding for the 2.4 million dollar buyout, then conduct a nationwide search for the next head coach. By the time this happens, BG may not be available. That is assuming that Barta would even entertain the idea of hiring BG. IMO, I don't think Barta would. That's not to say BG couldn't get the job done, or that he wouldn't be a good hire, I just think that Barta is going to take a conservative approach to who he hires next...if indeed he actually fires Lick this year.
