Bill Snyder

I think the issue is that K State has like 150,000 fans total. Maybe fewer. And they were awful before Snyder so he is basically a God there. Dealing with actual admission and behavioral standards, the annual trips around Iowa and listening to the morons on the call-in shows have worn heavily on Kirk.
Wouldn't it be nice to get an honest answer to knowing how much that stuff wears on those guys? Some I'm sure tolerate it more than others and maybe even enjoy it to a degree. But KF doesn't seem to enjoy much of the media/fan interaction side of the job much at all.. Maybe he sorta used to earlier on and that's changed and my recollection of history is fuzzy (dude's been here a long time) He just seems reluctant to even do the mundane puff pieces with Dolph… But that's just my observation on it.

I have no idea why in this day and age where college coaches have so much power, they still have to do the call in shows and alumni association circuits.

PR PR PR… They gotta glad hand the big $ donors if nothing else... Without pandering to them and trying to keep them happy they can't have those huge buyouts and salaries... The call in show stuff I guess is just contractual & that's all built in to those. I doubt every D1 gig has them but I could be wrong. Iowas fan base is so wide ranging and thirsty for more wanting more access to him and talk but his answers are never forthcoming or news making so I find them borderline pointless...

I guess I get a different vibe. I feel like he is enjoying coaching as much as he ever has, and while the loves it for the relationships with his players and fellow coaches, he is as comfortable as he has ever been with the other parts. I could be wrong, I don't hang out with the guy on the regular.

Oh and I get the same vibe of the actual coaching side of it. I think having his kid on staff has reinvigorated him on that side of things some. It's just all the media obligations and glad handing of the boosters and being asked a million times how he thinks Stanley looks or who's going to be the starting running back type of questions over and over that I could see just wearing a guy out be it those questions coming from fans or media. I think he grits his teeth to get through some of that as frankly most would.

I haven’t heard Kirk give a constructive answer to any question in 20 years. Every once in a while chad leistikow will get something out of him, and that’s about it. I don’t mind it though, it’s nice to have a coach who doesn’t melt down and throw fits.

I'm guessing when the first time Snyder retired and K State football fortunes went down, he was likely going stir crazy. His wife told him he needed to get a life (how many of us hear that) so he decided to go back to coaching. At this point, why stop?

When I read this post, I thought of that Chris Rock bit about Nelson Mandela serving all those years in prison, doing hard labor and never complains, then he gets released from prison, and after 6 months in his marriage, he has to get out.
