Apparently Bill Self unloaded last night but I have not been able to find the link. You can't get on Kansas' board. He is quite unhappy with what is going on in the Big 12 and is very unhappy about the prospect about possibly combining with the MWC...
 
I honestly feel really bad for KU, they don't deserve this. I'd much rather have KU than Mizzou in the Big 10. Bill Self is one of the top 3 coaches in the country in my opinion (Self, Izzo, Coach K) and the basketball program at KU deserves the best....

They better end up in a major conference...ACC, Big East?
 
I'm guessing he'll be much happier when the remaining Big 12 schools (ISU, KSU, KU, and Mizzou) merge with the Big East. That will be the BEST basketball conference in the nation.
 
I sense some jealousy. Bill Self wins, everywhere. You don't need to cheat when "Kansas" is on the front of your jersey...kids want to play there.

I love Bill Self, classy guy. I think he is one of maybe 3-5 coaches to ever take 4 schools to the tourney. He has won his conference championship 11 of his last 13 years or something crazy like that....
 
Not really.

I heard the entire interview. He hardly unloaded. He was very measured and calm in his discussion. He did say in his mind and that of the school there was really no other option but to be in a major conference. You can take that as you want, but it wasn't a threat to leave but more of a comment that he thinks they will have that option after it all plays out.

He's guaranteed to make millions per year into the forseeable future, coaches at one of the top programs in the country. KU will not end up in the Mountain West or WAC. I guess I don't get why the basketball program at KU "deserves the best."

No one feels bad for the likes of Iowa and teams on our level after putting in years recruiting a kid, only to have a KU or a Duke come in close to signing day and take whatever kid they want. There's nothing illegal about it, just the way it is. KU and Duke select who they want to play for them.
 
Sorry, but Bill Self is no saint. Like at Illinois where he got slapped on the wrist for soliciting funds from Illinois boosters to contribute to the Peoria-based Ft Sauk AAU program when he was recruiting Shaun Livingston...ncaa did not approve. But he did the same for Julian Wrights AAU club and successfully lured Wright from Homewood Floosmoor to KU. Or when he hired Chalmers dad to coach at KU,and Mario came along...won a title ,then both Mario and his dad take off...nice. I know, it is a tradition at KU a la Danny Manning and his dad. Oh yea, Self pushes every envelope available out there in recruit wars. I hope KU ends up marginalized in the MW. Self is a force in the midwest,and if he offers,Chasson Randle probably ends up at KU. I would like that to wane and I think it will if they are MW.

The biggest problem for Kansas is Kansas State. The B10 would consider Kansas for the Big 10 if they did not have to take Kansas State as well.
 
And not to mention that Lafrentz's parents "moved" to Kansas for the years Raef was in school then left...there were other details too.
