With Brian having a relationshp with him and I am sure Kirk knows him some because of the Belichek connection, if a player did want to leave maybe OBrien would kind of nudge them Iowa's way to keep them away from some of the other places that have been contacting players without calling him first.

My guess is that if they are leaving...he's going to try to nudge them out of the Big Ten. Why make his competition any stronger. It would be great if he could put another B10 program on probation for illegal contact though. Having three on probation and ineligible for bowl games would be great.

Geez, you could then call the B10 the "SEC North".

This. I think he is one of the last good ones out there. Michigan is very lucky to have him. IMO.

Contacting the other coach before you call one of their players is the right thing to do, especially a school that is in the same conference. Coaches that are not taking the time to do this are slime.

He did get Ball State on probation and had scholarships cut when he was there.

Yeah, now that I think about it, he does seem like an arrogant SOB. He is a shark at recruiting. Also, he whined to the media after last years game at Iowa about the calls at the end of the game so theres that as well. There were also rumors he was also negative recruiting against OSU last year and went after their players and I think got one to switch.
