Biggest Meltdown Since?

Can't really be surprised by this. Far from the first time this has happened this year. I was actually surprised we kept the lead as far into the second half as we did.

Seems like there was quite a bit of time with better talent sitting on the bench. Not sure why we don't just play our best players, use the bench to spell them, and get them back on the floor. That's pretty much what all the other teams do. Oh well... always next year.

No you can't.

22-2 run by MSU to go from down 12 to up 8. Lot of chokes down the stretch this year but this one, particularly with what was at stake, trumps all.

Somewhat, I was very young. But that was over the course of 20 minutes. This went from 12 point lead and the ball to down 1 in about 5 minutes.

We had the best team in the nation that year and there was a lot more at stake than a 50/50 shot at a tourney bid.

This game is nowhere near the tragedy that was the UNLV game. This team isn't as good as MSU and fought like champs, but just didn't quite have enough. Let's not forget that we had a game yesterday and they did not.

What I can't figure out is what were the refs doing? Not by anymeans putting it on the officiating, but consistency doesn't mean calling every ticky tack foul on one team while letting the other get away with whatever they want. As I said am I by no means blaming this loss on the officiating, but the fact is there is no way as agressive as both teams played that Iowa isn't in the bonus in the second half.

If the intention of the BIG was to get the top 4 teams into the semi finals they put a crew on the court that definitely aided to that. When your defense hits a wall and stops defending, your unable to catch a break or draw a foul, and can't continue to do the things that got you the lead in the first place, there really isn't much of a recipe for success.

Not understanding the ref angst, oh wait, did Iowa win...that's right...no

No need to mention them as they had nothing to do with the loss...maybe Iowa's inability to take a good shot and defend Gary Harris had something to do with it. Maybe making just dumb decisions when it matters most had something to do with it.

To the first bolded comment. Iowa was the most talented team that year. They were a 2 seed and finished 3rd in the B10 that season behind Indiana and Purdue.

To the second comment, you're absolutely correct. I didn't say tonight was a tragedy. Iowa was a fringe NCAA team at best with a win tonight. I'm not comparing the level of the how bad the loss hurt. Just the fact that Iowa was in complete control and went down by 8 in about 5-6 minutes.

This team has no character. It's hard to play basketball with with 2 hands around your own neck. This was a **** poor job of coaching, just stood there. Did nothing.

We have been taking it up the rear since the Jim Bain call in 1982. That *** who printed the T-shirts ruined Iowa sports.
