Bill Parcells draft special on ESPN: You would be surprised what schools are pipelines to the draft....Iowa.....In the last 10 yrs Iowa has had more players drafted than Alabama...Big Tuna showing the love to the Hawks

Iowa has alot of people on NFL rosters

When You count free agents who have made teams Iowa has somewhere in the neighborhood of the 14th, 15th, 16th most NFL alumni……That’s why I’m pretty convinced we have enuff talent to have a big year this coming year. The effort, focus, attitude and momentum is the key……

What Iowa does is play a pro-style offense & style of game. The philosophy is the same as NFL teams. There is not weird stuff like the Wildcat, spread out of the shotgun, etc. On top of this, Iowa gets their players physically ready for the NFL so many of these players can contribute right away with a smaller learning curve. These attributes are attractive for NFL teams.

I caught him last night when I couldn't get back to sleep and missed what he said about Stanzi. Anyone catch it? He had a long list of factors to consider when evaluating quarterbacks and I thought he may have marked Rick down a bit on completion percentage.

cm werent you claiming Troy Johnson would get drafted not too long ago?

Holy bastardization of what I said batman…………..

1st I didn’t say it on here and you know it…..

2nd I said he was way faster than the “typical” Iowa fan realizes (are you one of them) and would prove so on his Pro-day…..however I never saw what he ran and maybe he didn't at all so I guess we’ll never know...?!?

Finally I believe I did say if it hadn’t been for his own injury issues he would have had a shot to “make” an NFL team (not drafted) and he was better in coverage than AGAIN Iowa fans remember…

See here is the problem with Iowa fans or most sports fans in general, they see things that aren’t there. Or they take a snap shot in time of something bad and they generalize it for all time.

Hope that clears up what I actually said……

Chad

PS.......we have many fans that are famous or infamous as the case maybe for underestimating our kid’s ability and speed. That is where the Troy Johnson stuff came from. It would be interesting if we could all be so critical of their abilities but alas they make their assessments in private behind the anonymity of their keyboards

The "speed comments" about Troy largely crop up because he got burnt in coverage so much. The issue there that folks don't seem to realize is that Hunter wasn't particularly impressive in coverage through his first few YEARS starting either. And yet they expect Troy Johnson to tear it up in coverage ... particularly when he's playing the LEO spot, instead of the WILL spot that he's more familiar with. Never mind that Troy didn't have 2 years of starts under his belt like Hunter.

Anyhow, many numb nuts also where bashing Nielsen earlier in the season too ... and didn't shut up until quotes were coming out from Edds (and the Iowa coaches) about how impressive Nielsen had been playing.

Yeah you are dead on and it is very irritating to say the least...Nothing wrong with “critiquingâ€￾ and I am big on personal accountability but the crap they say just baffles me at times. Tyler in particular is quite an athletic specimen and if he hadn’t got injured last year it would have really changed our defensive scheme and abilities.

I just need to remind myself (continually) that most don’t “reallyâ€￾ know what they think they are seeing.

I myself didn't watch the whole 1.5 hour program so didn't see what he said specifically about Stanzi but here is his criteria:

  1. The quarterback must be a senior. . .because you need time and maturity to develop into a good professional quarterback
  2. He must be a graduate. . .because you want somebody that takes their responsibilities seriously.
  3. He must be a three-year starter. . .because you want to make sure his success wasn't a fluke and to know that he has been "the guy" for a significant period of time.
  4. He must have 23 wins. . .because big numbers don't mean a whole lot if you don't win.
  5. There was something about completion percentage and I may be a little foggy here but I think it was around 65%

Thanks, Chad.

Not much was said about Stanzi. I think he started to & was going to state something, but Turico said something & they got sidetracked & nothing was specifically said about Stanzi meeting the criteria. Next thing I knew, they were talking about RB's.
