The Big Ten Network's website posted an item on Wednesday morning that listed the Big Ten's draft pick totals over the last decade.

Ohio State led the way with 59 picks overall and Iowa was a surprising second at 45.. Iowa was also in a tie for third with six first round picks, behind Ohio State and Penn State.

Iowa and Wisconsin tied with five tight ends drafted.

Here are Iowa's picks by position:

OL: 13
DB: 9
DL: 8
LB: 5
TE: 5
RB: 2
WR: 1
QB: 1
K: 1

There is a lot more interesting data at that link

I think it's great Iowa get's so many kids drafted, but let's be honest, most of the players from Iowa get drafted in the late rounds.

Also, it looks like Iowa will start falling behind on that list as they may only have one player drafted this year and next year doesn't look much better.

In before a bunch of idiots hijack this thread with the "If Iowa has so many draft picks, why hasnt that translated to more wins on the field?"

Wish those numbers translated to better results on Saturday(s), but I get why they don't. The DB # is impressive it has been a good mix of corners and safeties you can probably add micah hyde to the list.

Bleep, your keyboarding skills are better than mine you beat me to the submit button, you know these post(s) are coming, regardless, Jon knows it is coming, too. I am sure he has got a bunch of rebuttal post(s) geared up and ready to go.

ESPN wanted to make a Gruden's QB camp episode with James Vandenburg, but they couldn't find any mistakes in the gametape.

I dont think this is true. Pretty much off all of the CB's from Iowa that have been drafted in the last 10 years turned into a Safety in the NFL.

I actually cant think of 1 that has stayed at CB. Prater probably will if he can recover from his knee injury.

Hell, Iowa's best cover corner of the last 15 years is now playing safety in the NFL.

fletcher. But that is not the point, I am talking about guys simply being drafted, where they end up playing in NFL was not what I was getting at. Tommy Knight was probably the best Iowa cover corner to be drafted, but he barely falls outside your 15 year window.

Well I think if you look at roughly the same time period I think Iowa's record lines up pretty closely with what the draft numbers indicate. I could be wrong on that though. Iowa has had a lot of good players over the last decade.

Impressive numbers of OL, TE and DB's (mostly safeties). What jumps out is the lack of skill position players (RB, WR, QB), which reinforces what we've known. Iowa has done a very good job of developing talent where development arguably makes the most impact (OL, TE, DL, safety) but it's very difficult to "develop" your way to a NFL-caliber RB, QB or WR.

So you would count Scott Frost, Eric Crouch and Brad Smith all as QB's who were drafted?

"Iowa was also in a tie for third with six first round picks"

Apparently it's not true that Iowa doesn't really get many higher draft picks.

Ok, guess I will be the first "idiot" who questions why the high number of draft picks hasn't translated into more success.

off the top of my head Iowa DB(s) drafted:

Corners: Fletcher, Speivey, Prater,

Safeties: Pagel, Sanders, Cosidine, Sash, bernstine

Pagel doesn't count which two am I missing?

Just the first in this particular thread. It has been asked, debated and debated again about 1000 times in the past 2 years.

Wasnt Jovon Johnson a late round pick?

Paschal?

Only 2 I can think of that may have been drafted.

Johnson 7th rounder to the Steelers???????

Paschal 5th rounder to the Dolphins??????

I will just go back and check some old rosters.

You're only missing one. Godfrey.

I was talking more nationally than just in conference. Over the last few years Iowa has had about as many guys drafted as Alabama or USC, however, most of their players were drafted in the first couple rounds as opposed to the later rounds.

This. Iowa has had 20 players drafted in the first three rounds over the last 10 years. By contrast, Ohio State has had 31, and USC has had 42. By nature, not all draft picks are created equal.
