It's almost wrapped up, with just the #1 spot to go (certainly to Red Grange). I just remember being ridiculed by someone around here (TylerSash) a while back for suggesting that Tom Harmon of Michigan would finish in the top 5. Well, Harmon is #5 (honestly, a Michigan Heisman winner was NOT going to be left off of this list).

Sweet....im clapping for you.

I was stunned that Jesse Owens was not number 1. I would not have put Grange and Magic ahead of him. What Owens accomplished in an age of extreme racism against African Americans was amazing.

Neither Magic or Isiah Thomas should have been on the list. I thought the Big 10 was supposed to be about student athletes, not two year wonders.

Indeed. I'm not sure what Magic did in 2 years should count. Even if you discount what Owens did at Berlin from being included (which shouldn't be the case, as he was still at tOSU at the time), and even if you discount the adversity he faced as a young black male, his achievements are tremendous. Including breaking 3 world records and tying a 4th in the span of 45 minutes at the Big 10 championships.

Magic, while a great basketball player, doesn't come close. Grange at least had some great numbers, but even then, I'm not wholly convince they outrank what Owens did at tOSU. That the #2 and #1 spots went to the Big Ten's biggest names in the revenue sports should be telling.

The thing that ticks me off the most about this countdown was that they included Penn State players before they were members of the Big 10.

Racism aside, he should have been the no brainer at the #1 slot. Broke 3 world records and tied another in one track meet. That trumps everyone else on this list and doesn't even take in account what he did in Berlin.
