Big game tonight vs. #7 Baylor

Can't wait to watch.

For a guy who grew up watching Iowa men's basketball in the '80s (even when Vivian had things rocking for the women), it took me a long time to really get into Iowa women's basketball.

But the past few years, it's been the Iowa team (of any sport) I've most enjoyed watching. Not even sure it's been close.

Chit Chat Wright is a super fun addition, too. And the number one Hawkeye name of all time.

Hawks have lost the 2 times they've faced each other. Once in the Sweet Sixteen and once in the Elite 8. Time for a payback! Go Hawks!

Man, that was some funky hoops tonight.
At one point, Baylor was 1 for 18...and Iowa had a 1-pt lead.
Rodriguez was a walking turnover all night -- she must have had 7 at least -- but then she came down with a minute remaining and the game on the line and went 1-on-1 to the hoop on a fast break for the basket. Sweet.
McCabe then intercepted the inbounds pass for an easy layup, a 5 pt lead -- game over.
It was ugly, but a W is a W. No way Baylor is the 7th best team in the nation -- heck, they played as tho they'd never seen, let alone played against, a matchup zone. And the BTen probably has 4 teams better than them -- but it's a good win.
Stremlow deserves BIG kudos for running the PG position when Chit Chat went down, AND nailing 3s in the 2nd half. Right now her stroke is looking like the best on the team.

Ohmygoodness the Emely double spin and miss the bucket when she should've brought it out and ran clock. What a head shaking game. McCabe with the steal and score! Who would've thought that would happen. Just nuts! This young team started growing up during this game and thank heavens for The Strem Show! Hope everybody is ok and I'm proud of the way this team came together and found a way to win! GO HAWKS!!!!!!
Beating a top 10 team keeps the streak alive.

Emely is somewhat new to basketball but she plays with a lot of aggression and a team needs someone like that. She'll get better.

I am going to be honest. This was an ugly game. The type of physical game you typically see in the WNBA that has turned off so many fans. And of course, 2 key players for Iowa ended up getting hurt and had to leave the game. Stuelke's injury was not so serious and she eventually returned. Chit Chat's injury looked much more serious and had to be carried off the court. I hope she is ok, but it looked bad.

Despite the win, I do not enjoy these type of games. I thought it was strange that despite the physical play, Baylor had to foul 3 quick times in the last 30 seconds just to get in the bonus. I will give Baylor this. They had an insane number of clean blocks on Iowa shots. At least 9 in the first half.

Also neither team was shooting very well even when they had open 3's. Seems like Baylor knew that McCabe was the only real 3-point threat for Iowa, and they had a player on her like a glove all game. Fortunely Stremlow stepped up to fill in for Chit Chat and ended up hitting a couple of key 3-point shots in the 2nd half.
