With a average Big 10 offense Iowa could have won at least a dozen more games over the 2000 to 20017 span.

Yes, Iowa always in the top half but I agree with others that since 2000 if the hawks had an average or top half offense like their defense they would have about 25 more wins in 18 years, maybe eve 36 or two more per year. Look at all the close game losses. And lets talk overall offense and scoring offense.

Look at the thread I started yesterday that shows Iowa being a relatively high scoring offense this year while being ranked so low in offense because they had three major high scoring blowout wins this year while scoring poorly in 5 other games.

how do things change if you include 1999?

Very possibly 3-4 more this year alone.

You still lose some of those games even so. Also, average over 17 seasons doesn't mean average every year. You still have ups and downs.

Iowa's offense has been clearly below average over 17 years. The defense has been well above average over the same span.

I think 3-4 this year is hyperbole but I don't think 1-1.5 per year over Kirk's tenure is wrong. Some seasons we had decent offenses and you likely don't win more games those years. But years we were in the 80-120 range I think you would get 2 so it would average out.

And I've said it on this forum on and twitter and to coworkers that THIS is why I'm kind of tapped out on Ferentz. THIS is why the 2015 good will is already burned through for me. Because our offense is more often than not inept to the point of being frustrating and painful to watch. I'm just over it.

I'm ready for something new and exciting. It doesn't have to be air raid, basketball on grass. There is a grand canyon wide gulf between where we're at and those kinds of offenses. Pick a point somewhere closer to the middle and I'd probably be happy.

And someone joked about 2000-2017 being rebuilding years but it doesn't feel like much of a joke to me. It feels like the pieces never fall together at once and there is always an excuse. AIRBHG, turnover at a non-skill position, worse WR corps in the B1G, etc. If we are mediocre again next year it will be because we lost our line backing corps. There will be some excuse why we're 6-6 to 8-4 AGAIN. EVERY FUCKING YEAR.
