BF to Maryland

Frost is also sitting on a 16 million dollar buy out, so he can be more choosy. He wants back in and he will get an opportunity. He just needs to convince one HC that he will approach the job professionally as OC. He honestly should have went to rehab. Worked for Sark. He is too young and had a wildly successful resume until he got to Nebbie. He still knows how to call plays and coach.
Agree with all of this. We haven't seen the last of him he'll eventually get a job and a chance to reboot his career too. Just might not be on the same timeline as some others.

Still a B1G gig but zero expectations of success.

No matter what happens you can always use the excuse, "Yeah, but we're Maryland..."

And you'd be correct.

I remember back in the day when Maryland had a really good basketball program. Definitely was a basketball school. Not sure what the hell they are now. Gymnastics maybe??

Yeah for awhile there both mens and womens team was pretty good. They sure aren't what they used to be at all. I don't think they are hanging their hats on anything nowadays .

Who is the HC at Maryland now. Don't make me Google it.

Honestly, nationwide the average college football fan wouldn't know who Iowa head coach is if you asked them. I’ve spoken to many out here in Utah that didn’t know.

I bet more college football fans know who Brian is over who Iowa’s head coach is.

Most fans are focused on their own team. It also helps like hell to be truly relevant and in many cases that doesn’t always hold true. As big of program as Alabama has been for over a decade, most college football fans probably have no clue who their head coach is right now.

BF to kind of sit back, access things, many things and decide if he is capped as a very good line. This doesn't sound like a tough or permanent position. Keeping his name out there should be important to BF right now. He was a good O line coach, maybe that's the life for him. Or something else entirely and time enough to ponder options.

Phil said, Brian probably knows a lot of our signals. Maryland concerns me, they always have an explosive passing game. I think they lead the leauge in passing.

Their problem is they usually self destruct. hope they do.

Um, why are we still signaling given green dot helmets?

Met Brian before - and I know some people that have been around him more.

High douche meter. Is he a good coach? Maybe, but certainly debatable.

(Edit: that being said nowhere near level of douche meter that Alford was. Heard some crazy stories about him from people who worked in carver or played on the women's team).

Just to be mentioned in the same sentence as Alford in a Douche-a-Meter conversation is incredibly damning

I have a friend that lives in North Liberty and evidently used the same daycare BF did. He ran into him there once picking up kids and said he was nice enough anyway and got a Go Hawks out of him. This was years ago probably 2020-2021ish he told me that.

We all know some of the Alford stories. Jon Miller has a good one he's told. My gosh I'm not sure what the upside is to hiring a guy like that or why we even kept him around as long as we did. I know he got out ahead of the posse thankfully but he just had to go. Is he still at Nevada? I'd have to google it I haven't seen anything about the guy in quite awhile

Defense has a MICed up helmet as well.
Correct.

However, I listened to a pod the other day with coaches talking about this very thing and they talked at length about it. Defenses still rely on signals (Iowa included) because they're only allowed one green dot on defense, and defensive players cycle out constantly based on down, field position, offensive personnel, etc. Whereas on offense the QB most generally is on the field the entire game for every play.

Also, offenses get a huddle where the QB has everyone in front of him or at the very least gives the signal to the other 10 players, and defensive calls most of the time are last minute based on the offensive formation so there isn't much time for a huddle etc. on the defensive side. Essentially the coaches on the pod said that defensive calls are reactive based on looks/personnel right before the snap, and along with crowd noise at away games it pretty much negates the effectiveness (and timeliness) of defensive signals coming through the helmet. On defense they still rely on all 12 players looking to the sideline to see the signals. They also mentioned (anecdotally) that offenses actively exploit the shutoff at 15 seconds.

One interesting thing I heard mentioned was, why not allow everyone to have it mic'd in? I have to say I can't think of a reason why every player shouldn't be able to hear it on offense or defense. What's the difference between having all the defensive players look for a big posterboard or hand signals on the sideline as opposed to having one-way audio in their helmets?

I have no huge problem with a guy being douchey as long as he's good at his job and not abusive to people. Some folks aren't "people persons" myself included. But Alford in general and BF's tirade in the press box hallway etc. is too far.

Like Fran? That seems to be a character trait some can't help but notice. He's not exactly chummy with the public and fans. Nice enough guy but he and Jan Jensen couldn't be more polar opposite in that way.

Hell I half forgot about BFs press box deal that's been awhile ago now too. If he wasn't KFs kid that shoulda gotten him fired. Was he OC at that time or OL/TEs coach then?

OC.

The thing with Fran is I'm pretty sure he's a gigantic asshole but everything I've ever heard indicates his players absolutely love the guy and love playing for them. I for one love it when he freaks out in defense of his players. As someone who played sports from kindergarten through college, those are the guys who I want to be my coach.
