BF, if You Care about Iowa Football...

Since this is a fantasy thread...Let's have Brian F resign so he can take over for Bill Belichick at New England next year.

Not sure where the OSU game offense has gone. One thing I’ve notice in the last two games is the lack of shotgun formation on 1st down. Versus OSU 1st down plays were run almost exclusively out of shotgun. Outcome: OSU didn’t know if it was a read option, designed pass play, screen, etc. We should run mostly shotgun plays when Wadley is in the game.

In the last two weeks the offensive philosophy has taken a draconian (Ferentzian) turn back to the 1st down I-formation, and run, run, pass, punt offense we’ve all grown accustomed to over the last 19 years. The only times this strategy should be employed is when facing clearly inferior opposition (rarely), goal line situations (rarely), and when trying to run out the clock with a large lead (rarely).

How it took the coaching staff 56 minutes to open the playbook this week is beyond comprehension. Let’s just blame it on lack of execution though since that seems to work around here.
Doesn't take a coaching mastermind to figure out: when the defense puts 8-9 guys in the box, running straight up the middle usually will not work. It's just sad KF and BF are the only 2 coaches in the country who still swear that it will work..

BF is finding out you can't take short cuts to the top. He should have found a high school or small college job some where and plotted his own course. Most of the really good football minds have taken that route. You not only learn the basics of coaching but also how to deal with people, especially with the players of all talent levels and how to develop and motivate them. And one more huge factor. You learn how to win because if you don't you're gone. Ain't no hidden shield there to protect you from that. Funny how that will make a coach work his ass off trying to figure out how to win.

I think BF can be a good football coach someday. It should be his work and his experiences that get him there. Not riding on somebody's coattails. A hell of a lot more respect will come his way by doing it that way.
