Not sure where the OSU game offense has gone. One thing I’ve notice in the last two games is the lack of shotgun formation on 1st down. Versus OSU 1st down plays were run almost exclusively out of shotgun. Outcome: OSU didn’t know if it was a read option, designed pass play, screen, etc. We should run mostly shotgun plays when Wadley is in the game.
In the last two weeks the offensive philosophy has taken a draconian (Ferentzian) turn back to the 1st down I-formation, and run, run, pass, punt offense we’ve all grown accustomed to over the last 19 years. The only times this strategy should be employed is when facing clearly inferior opposition (rarely), goal line situations (rarely), and when trying to run out the clock with a large lead (rarely).
How it took the coaching staff 56 minutes to open the playbook this week is beyond comprehension. Let’s just blame it on lack of execution though since that seems to work around here.
