You can bet the house on the fact that Pat Fitzgerald will out coach KF this weekend. He owns KF like everyone else in the NCAA knows it's not hard to game plan against the Hawks. I don’t have a lot of hope for this being a W for the Hawks. Not without a QB that can stretch the field and KF proved against Maryland he is ok with his choice. That's fine it's his call to make, but it's sad to see what has happen to this Hawkeye program. Watching this team play is like chewing the flavor out of your bubble gum.

What are your realistic predictions for this game?

KF sticks with Jake the whole game final drive to win game stalls out with a short pass.

I have Iowa winning 21- 17. Fitz has lost 2 of the last 3 vs Iowa....so not exactly dominating KF lately.
 


I have the Hawks winning 27-21 but I'm not expecting an exciting game. I love the Hawks as much as the next guy but part of the excitement I get this year comes from being on here for the game thread. Nothing against this site or the people on here, even the cyfans but game day should be about the game. There's something lacking this year.
 




Is a scary game coming up. Fitzgerald will have a nice game plan and likely have his team up for the game. NW is not strong this year and will allow us to have a chance in this game. We have better personnel on our team for sure, Fitzgerald just gets more out of what he's got than we are able to do. Will be another test for the coaching staff on game planning and player coaching, and so far they are around D- grade for the year. I'll be watching but scared like a little girl for our beloved Hawks.
 


I'll the house, the farm, and all my kids that....an Iowa player will be going balls to the wall, slam into Fitz, and break his leg......:)...Hawks win in yet another close (but probably shouldn't be) game....24-23
 


The only way Fitz wins this game is if he's able to get his running backs to torch the edge and make Iowa's linebackers miss. It's been a pattern for the Iowa D lately and it's their biggest weakness. IF Iowa can shore up that edge defense Iowa should win comfortably. Too bad the two deep came out yesterday, as I'd be curious to see who Smith's backup is gonna be.
 


Actually Fitz has been recruiting pretty well in recent years, so I think the talent is about equal. Justin Jackson, the frosh rb that NW beat iowa for, is better than any of our backs. Prater, their WR, was a 5 star guy. They have speed on defense and are solid. Simeian has been hurt but is getting healthy this week. I think the talent is equal.....home field has to be the edge. Just ask any NW fan on how great a game coach Fitz is....they dislike him as much as Iowa fans question KF.
 


0 big 10 championship Fitzscumbag is not half the coach that KF, a coach who has big 10 championships and a bcs bowl win. Another thing that Fitzscumbag has not done. Under KF in head to head match ups against NW Iowa has an overall point lead of 350-261, that comes to an average of about 27-20 Iowa. In Iowa's wins under KF Iowa has outscored NW 234-101. That comes to an average of about. 39-17 Iowa! Since Iowa will win this game I will follow the trend and pick Iowa to win 38-17.

I think we win. Need to balance out that Iowa State loss.
 


Are we talking about the Fitzgerald who is 3-9 in his last 12 big ten games? That guy?

I think we win because unlike Wisconsin...our passing attack has a pulse. It's near death, but it's hanging in there. I wish they would throw to Willies more. He's got promise.

Sadly, I have little interest in this game. I think it will be a game between very average teams. Sadly, I have to admit we are simply an average program. Playing NW is becoming a little like playing ISU ... No matter how good or bad they are they put a little something extra in the water when it comes to playing Iowa. NW is very good at figuring out Iowa's tendencies. So, yeah, as the OP stated ... Fitz will most likely outcoach Kirk ... As I write this I think how disheartening it is to now be in doubt about beating the likes of an Indiana, NW, Minnesota ... Teams we used to OWN ... And sadly, it frustrates me more than I have slowly just come to accept it ... Why? Because I know Kirk isn't going anywhere anytime soon ... so it's sort like of like we are stuck with eating TV dinners for the next 3, 4, 5 years. Repetitive and not too exciting.

For some reason this made me laugh. Probably because on the one hand it should be ridiculous but on the other hand entirely likely to play out this way. Thank you for bring us to this point, Kirk.
 


Iowa jumps out to 17-3 lead midway through 2nd quarter. Kirk decides to kill the clock going 3 and out 7 consecutive posessions. Iowa loses 24-17 as Iowa can't find the 'on' switch again.
 


There is another interesting trend in Iowa's favor. In years that end in 4 Iowa has never lost to Northwestern. Iowa is 5-0 with an average margin of victory being 25.8 points! 4s sure treat Iowa well in this series.
 


This game depends on two things - is Trevor Siemien healthy and who will have lady luck on their side in the waning 4 minutes of the game. Northwestern lost games in the waning minutes in every way imaginable last season, but they have a pretty decent team. This year, they have won at PSU and beaten Wisconsin, both of which are no small feat. They dropped some ugly games early and got absolutely destroyed by Nebraska two weeks ago, but I think these are two pretty evenly matched teams. If Trevor is healthy, Vitale comes back to avenge his moronic chop block that cost Northwestern the game last year and Northwestern gets its typical two bounces it always gets against Iowa, the Hawks will lose for sure.
