Best TV for Watching Sports?

So, I'm in the market for a TV. Still have a Panasonic Plasma that can't be beat by anything out there, but it's only a 50 incher, and we need something bigger around 75 to 80 inches. Anyone care to give advice?

I personally suggest the Hell TV......then, on the big screen, you can watch Kirk's Greatest Offensive hits along with Fran's Greatest Defensive hits over and over again. You can even put yourself right into the game and listening to all of the coaching ineptness right on the bench or the sidelines. ;)

In all seriousness, we have a 60 inch Vizo tv, so don't know a lot about the 70 inch or above...just what we see from time to time going through Best Buy looking at them.

I started shopping around some recently and isn't the OLED systems supposed to have the true black and best pictures? I looked at a lot at Best Buy and I guess I am not that discriminating.

TK, have you looked at the OLED?

My 32 inch 12 yo is still fine. I don't need to see pimple and snot. I still have better than 20-16 vision but there is only so much the human eye can accomodate.

The OLEDs definitely have a true black and are expensive, but I read that some of those actually have a slower refresh rate than they advertise. My plasma has a really high refresh rate, so games are really fluid. Just trying to find something closer to that.

Love my 60 inch Vizio tv, I have a surround sound system and Blu ray player hooked up to it...great for movies. I would watch the Iowa/Minnesota game on it today, but I'll be at the game freezing my butt off. I'll have some of that luke warm hot chocolate that they serve to keep me warm.

Oled probably too much money for me to pay as I am a visual person but I really dont have to have that super hi def. Some mid range hi def looks awesome to me.

Plasma boy here. Had high expectations that OLED would be the ticket. The tech is still too young and they suffer from issues similar to the early plasmas. And they have artifacts that exasperate compression artifacts in your source media. I have an acquaintance who is associated w/ Canon and has done the camera work on some of the big HBO series. A year ago he was all OLED. Today he is all about full array back lit LCD for the reasons above. They are not perfect either but to my eye much more pleasant to look at.

I'm just really bummed they don't make plasmas anymore. Nothing on the market comes close.
A 4K Plasma would be the ultimate TV. The panels That Pioneer and Panasonic made have a very long life but the switching power supplies that power them were junk. I think the future we will see enthusiasts revive them a lot like we see a niche in audio for tube amps and preamps.
