Best Iowa dunker of all time?

Gerry Wright might as well have played before color TV as far as I know.

I was at Iowa when Ricky was there (same dorm), and though I thought Ricky was an impressive dunker at Iowa (and Davenport North), he was no Doug Thomas. Neither is Eric May. In fact, May might not be the #1 white dunker. I might go with Russ Millard.

BTW, can we get Gabe some of that want-to, so he can dunk instead of missing bunny lay-ups?

Yeah I am not young enough for Gerry Wright for sure. Doug Thomas is no question the most demonstrative dunker of this generation. Other great dunkers: Joey Range, Daryl Moore, Kingsbury, Pierre Pierce(dude was dumb obviously but he had hops), Ricky Davis, Russ Millard, Guy Rucker, Luke Recker (best warm-up dunker I have ever seen), Kenyon Murray... all these guys had hops. I would probably take Doug Thomas though as being more memorable.

Nobody holds a candle to Jacob Jaaks though...

Just watching Doug Thomas do those dunks overseas, he brings some power you don't see in a lot of NBA dunks. Do they have different rims where he was playing?

Now I was smoking alot of pot in the 80's, but I remember Brad Lohaus throwing down pretty often with some mighty dunks that shook the rafters in Carver.

Thomas dunks like he's on a nerf hoop. He just destroys it.

I was still in Iowa City when Wright came to Iowa. We were playing pickup hoops at the fieldhouse in the Fall (before Wright had dressed for Iowa). My buddy was on a team playing against him. Wright came back on a fast break and my buddy (about 5'11") set himself in front of the hoop. Sir Jamalot jumped right over him and slammed it home.

Everybody just stopped. My roommate just walked off the court shaking his head. We talked about that for weeks.

By the way...here's what Gerry is going today. http://aalbc.com/authors/gerry.htm

What people forget is his SPEED to the hoop. It was like a blur.

Gerry Wright had great dunks in the games? or just in practice is my question.

I was pretty young when he was playing and don't remember him that much- I remember all the other guys - moe, lohaus, gamble ect.

So I'm not really sure I'm buying that one

Greg brunner was a decent dunker also.

Best I can remember though are thomas, davis, and winters.
