Best announcer for the big 4

I agree 100%. I've always thought if I were a sports announcer, I would probably have a couple lines in my back pocket in case I was ever in that situation. (I know, it's a contrivance, but it's better than re-hashing someone else's line with slightly different inflection - like Dolph tried to do - and end up sounding unoriginal)

I think college radio guys should be held to a different standard. Guys like Michaels, etc. are supposed to be objective storytellers. The guys like Dolph are supposed to be big homers. Dolph is basically just a big fan with a microphone.

When Holloway caught that ball, I immediately started running laps all over the house screaming my head off. The fact that Dolph could contain that feeling to "I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!" is pretty impressive, if you ask me. He was literally just as shocked and elated as the rest of us; it wasn't just a call for him, it was his genuine reaction to what happened.

I think he's average, at best, when it comes to being a PxP guy. The score/clock issue is a pretty big deal, especially if you tune in in the middle of the game. But that call has nothing to do with my opinion of him as an announcer.

I felt like the only person on hawkeyenation happy when Ed Podolak was let go. Dolph is a great play by play guy, he is professional but displays the hometeam enthusiasm a team's readio guy needs. But, he isnt a homer, he calls a spade a spade.

Podolak offers no real insight and seems like a dude on his couch after too many beers.

For me it depends on the sport
Dolph for football
Walters for basketball

Rima sounds like he should be doing a Sesame street character's voice when he gets excited about something.

Dolph is a terrible play by play guy. It doesn't matter if he isn't a homer, which he is.

Definitely this, although I also don't mind Walters for football.
