I wonder whether NIL discussions over Stirtz may have been what caused that delay in Ben inking the contract. Pure and rank speculation.

Lots speculate that Stirtz would be the #1 player in the portal right now, also speculating that he could be a pre-season All American.
Also, ironic that the #1 position fans have been clamoring for in MBB for a decade is already filled before the new coach even gets announced.

How can one not root for a kid like that? No offers from D1 goes to D2 follows coach to Drake and does what all they did and now this. He coulda opened himself up and made serious $ for 1 yr. Instead he's gonna follow coach to Iowa with no way of knowing what kind of yr to expect for a SR yr. That's some kind of bond he and coach McCollum have.

Agree, but again, I bet he's making a sizable amount of money to be here. Certainly, more than whatever he was getting at Drake. And I'm sure he's a smart kid. Not a terribly difficult sell to say, "come with me, I know how to maximize you, we'll build you a team and give you a platform that elevates you from the probable second round pick you are now to a first, and whatever extra money you could've made this year will be chump change in comparison to the opportunity cost of risking playing for anyone else."

No idea if Dix has interest in coming back, or if Iowa can afford him, but man....can you imagine a back court of Dix and Stirtz under McCollum?
Dix strikes me as a cerebral, patient player who understands team basketball on both ends.
I would love to see what McCollum could do with him, especially paired next to a player who is already performing at a high level within the system.
That is one salty back court.

I dunno how much Iowa's Swarm is hooking him up with but it wouldn't be half of what he could get on the market. Maybe not even 25% of it. Dude is legitimately one of the top few players available. Schools like KSU throw around 2 million to guys nobody wants. Kansas overpaid Dickenson a million or more. Is Swarm able to give him 300kish? So Idc who you are when making life decisions regarding that kind of $ that's a tough choice. Hats off to him for prioritizing what makes him happy. We all have a line in the sand somewhere and he's chosen his.

I get it, and I get that most guys his age might not make the level-headed decision. But he stands to make a lot more following Ben and getting a year showing off in B1G play than he does pulling an extra million or two somewhere else with his final year of eligibility. Of course, there's risk, but he risks injury anywhere, and I think he has a much greater risk of looking like a fraud playing anywhere other than Iowa. So, do you snag perhaps $2 million in guaranteed earnings next year, or play the long game? I'm no expert in the exact difference between what he will get and could get. I think the selling point here is he maximizes his earnings over the next 5-10 years by making less next year. I think that's the financially intelligent call myself, anyhow.
Yeah that's all a part of the process of thinking it through too. At least it should be. Bird in the hand vs future potential earnings. What's his realistic potential at the next level be it NBA/ Europe whatever. Dude is smart. He's 6'4 has a handle and can shoot off balanced shots off the dribble. Those things bode well for him I'd say.

It is funny, McCollum's biggest strength's is coaching defense with emphasis on rebounding, offensive efficiency, and developing PG's who can play 40 minutes without getting into foul trouble.
This all sounds new to us Iowa fans, that's for sure.

Me too.... However Dix seems like a pipedream. And Pryce needs to be living in the weight room. He wasn't a good defender or rebounder... Like at all. So I'll be curious if Ben wants to bring him back and if he fits. If Pryce is jumping up and down wanting to I'd like to think Ben would. But yet Pryce is in the portal looking around so who knows what else he finds.

I think with Dix it's going to come down to $$$ and if Iowa can get close with that. I don't think it will be so much the coach Iowa hired, per se. I think he'd be fine with McCollum and Iowa but he's in a position to cash in from some school. Freeman the same but not sure he has the alliance that Dix may have with Iowa. I suppose there is a chance that IA State could pull Dix there to if he wanted to stay close to home. Who knows. It definitely is the Wild West anymore but kind of interesting to follow if your team plays poker pretty well. If they don't it can suck.

If there are free burgers, I am all for building Culver's Arena. I don't think the University of Wisconsin will like playing in Iowa's Culver's Arena, which is also nice.
