Being a Cubs fan...

At least Cubs fans aren't a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. It's easy to be a Yankees fan, or a Cardinals fan, etc.

Yeah, but only about 7% of supposed Cub fans are actually baseball fans. The rest don't really know jack about the team. I'm pretty sure Sammy Sosa got a lot of votes for the all-star game from Cub fans this year who think he's still with the team.

That's the dumbest excuse. You think I'm a cardinal fan because they were awesome in the early 90s? So when you were picking teams you picked the worst one or what?

That sound you here now, is the deafening roar of Cardinals fans patting themselves on the back. It is often accompanied by a smug grin while giving a standing ovation to a sacrifice bunt...which is a play less "sophisticated" baseball fans wouldn't understand.

What? They traded Sosa? What the hell were they thinking? The next thing you will know is they want to trade Larry Boa! What a bunch of idiots. I was hoping they would at least finish in fourth place in their division. It's a good thing the ball park in beautiful though.

All kidding aside, it's a very sore subject. Followed that team for forty years and finally got tired of losing and lost interest the past six years. I thought I heard they have a new owner now. Some billionare guy who supposively is a huge cubs fan and wants to re-build a winner in Chicago. What is this year three now under this new ownership? I work seven days a week (hey God can you make an eight day week) and have little time with my family. Finally decided to go to movies, eat out, travel, and play board games with the kids rather than sit around for two and half hours watching one of the most pathetic teams in all of baseball.

So what it with this new owner? Some of you that still follow the team. Is this guy serious or is he just another investor trying to use and abuse one of the most loyal fan bases in all of baseball? It kills me when my boys call me at work to give me the score of that days game. Usually it not good news.

oh that is being plain silly Twill!

We all know Andre Dawson replaced Sammy years ago.

I'm a diehard Cubs and Hawk fan. I love the two because there are SO many parallels there:

Both were powerhouses when their respective sport was in its infancy. (Cubs in '00s-'30s and for a while in the '60s - the Hawks in the '20s and '50s).

Then, both were pounded into irrelevancy by a selfish, shortsighted boss (Philip K. Wrigley for the Cubs, Forest Evashevski for the Hawks).

Then, in the '80s, success again coincided for a spell. It dipped in the mid-90s. Both had their finest recent success from around '02 to '09. Once again, both have dipped since that time - and both are destined to rise to unprecedented heights in coming years.

Cubs and Hawks. Peas and carrots.
