Let's think about some things stated in this presser.

Ferentz said that he would NOT mention results of individuals drug testings.

Barta said that not ALL instances lead to players being suspended. They start with counselling.

There definetly were some over-the-top rumors being put out there which obviously needed to be dealt with.

I am happy there is no more casualties as of now. Hopefully it's over. Hopefully everyone gets their **** together.

To not read between the lines of some of the comments and the need to explain how the University performs and maintains drug testing is turning a blind eye.

If it makes you all feel better so be it.

There is always going to be more info than what is going to be brought forth.
 
The rumors produced three players being dismissed from the team. Someone, in some shape or form, new what was going on. It came out. It may not have been completely spread accurately, but usually where there is smoke, there is fire. That is why we should not always totally dismiss what is making reported. Look at it, take it for what it is, and see what happens.

I never thought for a minute that there aren't players on the team who have used drugs in the past, just like there are in every group of 115 college guys. The rumors that went crazy in the past few days involved players failing a team-wide drug test over the weekend and getting suspended. 10 players, by some accounts, and up to 26 (!) according to several people this morning. None of those things happened, and in fact, the drug test was never administered.

Seriously, at a certain point it's put up or shut up.

I love the revisionist history here. The rumors did not produce three players getting dismissed.

DJK got arrested. He did that entirely on his own. There were rumors about misconduct (SirEdHightower's posts), but nothing about drugs.

Jewell Hampton broke his own news about leaving on his Facebook page, which then started a swirl of rumors.

ARob is temporarily off the team, which may or may not have anything to do with drugs, or may just be academically related, as his previous punishments were. Yes, there were rumors about him after the Jewell facebook episode (probably because he commented on his status), but he was lumped in with a bunch of other players that have had nothing happen.
 
Actually, there were rumors out there about DJK being removed from the team prior to his arrest. At least a week or two before his arrest happened.

They ARob and Hampton rumors were out there before the facebook page was posted.

Why was DJK getting kicked off at that point in time? Drugs? That doesn't make sense. He was getting kicked off for drugs, but he had no idea. Then the team waits until he gets arrested and never offers to help him get treatment or anything. Sorry but it doesn't add up.

The Arob rumors can at best be called probable. And they may not even be true because it may all be academic problems. Never saw anything on Hampton before the FB post. Even if rumors did preceed his post, they did so by a matter of hours/minutes not days.

Listen, the rumor mill failed, failed, and failed in an epic orgasm of failure. No one was suspended today and certainly not 26 players. KF is still the coach. No one failed a drug test at all. No one was even offered a drug test. Give it a rest. The rumor-mongering lost. Just stop.
 
I'm very comfortable with the testing procedures Iowa has in place to monitor this. I'm also very comfortable that if a play tests positive the first time they are given help. The end of a story that really wasn't!

Drug test results are never open to the public or even in a private environment. Barta said that if a player refused a drug test it is treated as a positive result. What the hell are you looking for?
 
I'd be curious to know how many other universities have proactive drug testing policies like Iowa. From the presser, it sounded like it's completely voluntary on the university's part if they want to have a program in place or not. The NCAA doesn't require it.
 
I heard lots of names...and I still believe those names had positive test results. They made it quite clear first time offenses don't necessarily mean suspensions. I for one am glad the good captain didn't resign and nobody else is missing the bowl game.
