Beathard: 'We Didn't Have Much Leadership Last Year'

Leadership and chemistry suddenly appear after winning.

Meh... they've been saying it since January that leadership was an issue. And honestly, I can think of a couple names of players who probably really weren't all that team-oriented. I mean, Carl Davis essentially admitted he would take a few plays off then one or two back on. That's pretty individualistic. With all the hype Scherff got, I'm sure it was a bit of a distraction for him. And King/Lomax/Ott weren't really the leaders on defense yet. But they certainly seem to be team leaders now. Same with Blythe. And I even think Cole Fisher helped out there, too.

You're forgetting the guy who took his ball and cried all the way to Michigan because he wasn't good enough to keep the starting job his senior year. Everything I've heard between January and now pretty much just confirms the attitude of last year's team was that CJB should've been the starter all season. I can see why guys love playing with Beathard, look what he is playing through, and he goes out every week, sacrifices his body, and busts his *** for the team.

Prep. school. Pre med. One time took a dirty hit last season. Not one other Iowa player helped him after he got decked. It all adds up to me. Probably a great guy. Maybe even a decent teammate. Make both Michigan and America Great Again!

There didnt seem to be the total union of players last year like this year. There probably was a division of players based on the qb position. Were some players also wondering about who was getting playing time at other positions. Not sure but all I know is the team this year is committed to playing for each other as one, as they have been saying.

The first time I knew this team was different than last year is when the Swarm walked over to get the CyHawk Trophy as a team. Really awesome moment.

This. Not just one leader. Each of the three teams that take the field need a LEADER!!
OFFENSE, DEFENSE, SPECIAL.
Seems obvious IA has them this year.
IA has a leader at the coin flip but can't participate in the game - Drew Ott. But, he's with his buddies on the sidelines. He played injured ( elbow ) and demonstrated toughness. As CJB has and King has. Agree with earlier post that chemistry is better and no prima donnas.
