Echoing
@1hawkeye1 above, Holy rock fight, Batman! Yikes, the game was uglied up by Maryland, and the refs let it go after the 1st quarter (Maryland had only 3 fouls in the second half before they started fouling intentionally). Iowa played very sloppy, and the young ones aren't yet ready for prime-time, but man did they fight. What Lexi lacks in some areas, she makes up for in guts. No fear at all to take the most important shots down the stretch.
Ollinger was amazing. I can't believe the jump she has made this year. She is like Draymond Green out there (GS version, not MSU version), anchoring the D and delivering smart passes on O. I don't know if they do an all-B1G all-defense team, but if they do, she needs to be considered.
Although Hawks were ugly last night, what a great bunch to watch overall. Fast, positionless basketball with players that can shoot and attack the rim. An effective hub in the middle to work around. Frankly, they look like an NBA team right now in many of their offensive concepts. They have also embraced the 3 in a way that feels a bit overdue, but was also difficult to do when Gustafson was shooting 70% and scoring 25+/game. They are willing to shoot through slumps now, and to hunt 3-pointers like they wouldn't previously. They can go on some ridiculous runs when they start raining fire.
Hopefully Marshall gets past the mid-year freshman wall, and hopefully 2nd year players Taiwo and Martin can continue to carve out roles. Warnock is going to be awesome, can't wait to see her grow.
Go Hawks!
