BCS Ratings Questions (Math Test)

Now I realize there are 3 games left, but this is more a question about how the calculations work.

If Iowa is ranked 4th in Harris and Coaches poll and ranked 2nd in Computer poll, what would Iowa's BCS ranking be? Is this why the Iowa Sports Information Dept sends out a comparison of the 4 - 8 ranked teams?
 
It's an average of the percentage points of each poll. And I like your thinking...I've been saying the same thing since the BCS stuff came out.

Iowa gets to fourth in the human polls.....There are gonna be some ****** off teams.

If you take the 4th in the coaches and harris and 2nd in the computer it goes like this. (Assuming same points from the 4th place teams this week.)

.8116(harris)+.8014(coaches)+.96=2.573
Divide by 3=.8577
Still 4th in this weeks poll, BUT as the season wears on, things happen, teams don't get as many points.

Alabama is at .917 this week for reference.

Iowa beat OSU there is going to be some points love in the polls.

EDIT: Harris poll is points/2850 Coaches is points/1475 Computer is a percentage based on 5 computer polls with 25 points being the best team in the nation in each poll. (So 125 points total)

I'd have to think they have a realistic opportunity to slide into the #3 spot if they can move up to #4 in the coaches and harris polls.

I honestly think Alabama loses one time before the SEC championship game too. Either LSU this week, @ Miss. State next week, or @ Auburn in the last week.

Another question since you seem to know what you are talking about...
I've been trying to figure out what the total points possible are for the Harris and the Coaches Polls. Can you help?? I believe this is where you are getting your percentages, correct??

The edit contains the info you are looking for. The more votes we get the better off we'll be. Each vote helps our % in each of the human polls...continuing to win will keep us no worse than 2nd in the computer polls IMO.
 
Iowa wont move up in the people polls......this is as good as it gets...
Penn State is going to beat OSU ....they will say: OSU is having a down year.
When Iowa beats Northwestern soundly......Iowa was favored so what..
When Iowa dominates OSU.....OSU is having a down year, freshman QB, overrated.
When Iowa blows out Minnesotta.....no one notices because of all the end of season drama to set up conference playoffs.....
Conference playoffs go on and Iowa is idle.....Idle teams NEVER go up.

Remember KF teams drive us nuts in October and play stronger in November....

Could we get to a close 3rd in the human polls and have a 1 or 2 ranking in the computer poll lift us into BCS 2 ranking?
 
Even after the SECCG, I still don't know if we'll be able to get into a "close" 3rd...if you look at the human polls right now, there is a sizable difference between 3 and 4 in each of the polls.

Iowa needs to smoke (and by smoke I mean win by several touchdowns) their final 3 opponents and hope that Texas or the SEC champ loses a game to really have a good chance to make it into the NCG.
