That was some fun game to watch. It is interesting too, b/c TCU's defense I believe is a model that many teams - Iowa included - are taking clues from in dealing with spread based attacks. Now, they did not look that way last night obviously after losing so much talent to graduation, but TCU and VT both run a 4-2-5 "robber" package that has been extremely successful in up-tempo, passing-focused leagues. We can see with the selection of Kirksey/Hitchens to the Will at Iowa some adaptation to the TCU/VT look. Definitely fun to watch the subtle X & O adaptations to counteract what the other is doing. The spread based approach, for instance, is what effectively killed the "desert swarm" and other 8-man front defensive packages as a base front.
As to offense, Art Briles is quite an innovator and I have watched his career progress with keen interest. It looks like he is putting together the type of success at Baylor that will be a springboard to a big-time job in the next couple years. Wouldn't mind Iowa bringing an ast. coach from Briles' staff on board but, yes, I know, a man can dream.
