Battle for Atlantis Predictions

Iowa edges out a win against Xavier, this proves to be the closest of all the games. Game winner is hit by Mikey after a great pass from Marble.

Iowa beats UTEP by 15 on Friday.

Iowa beats Villanova by 8 in the Finals.

I won't go into details as this has been discussed in other threads. If Iowa loses it will be to Xavier IMO...don't think for a minute this will happen. Our quality depth takes over round by round and we go 3-0. The youngsters from Kansas don't concern me all that much...talented but young and a greater concern at the end of the season.

Also, White should get a lot of dunks in this tournament. The Big 10 has adjusted to White breaking down the floor looking to dunk on every possession...forcing him to adjust/improve his game. Teams can't prep for this in a day.

I also feel Iowa can beat Kansas on a neutral floor, but I have a bad feeling that Iowa may be flat for Xavier and get in a hole early on and not be able to get over the hump

Just from reading a few things on Xavier, it seems they are worried about the same thing. They have had trouble scoring early on. Hopefully were connecting on all cylinders and get a good lead early. Our depth can take over from there.

Honest question to all that think this: Why do people feel Iowa can not only compete with Kansas, but beat them?
I just do not see it, but maybe I just am overvaluing Kansas too much because I feel they are a legit Final Four team with Kentucky and MSU.
I haven't decided who my fourth favorite to make the Final Four is, but again, am I overvaluing Kansas, or undervaluing Iowa?

Thanks in advance and this isn't a troll question or anything, I would like legit arguments.

It's college basketball, there's tons of parity. Kansas is not 1990 UNLV, there aren't great teams in college any more. We competed with top ten teams last year, why is this Kansas squad any different?

Okay, I get that, but none of those were upsets, but I get that Iowa is better than those opponents.

I do not agree that there aren't great teams, there aren't dynasties anymore.

With Dukes struggles against bad teams there is an argument to be made that we would be the best team Kansas faced at that point.

Not to sound like a cranky old man, but there really aren't great college teams anymore, college basketball today sucks compared to the late 80's/early 90's. You just don't see the great players stay for 3 or 4 years like you used to and as a result you don't get the great teams due to the high turnover at the top schools.

You may be a cranky old man and I don't think we are so far off on our thinking. I do feel there are great teams, like Kentucky a couple of years ago, but there will never be a dynasty again.

The basketball isn't as good that is definitely true. There is zero incentive for players to stay now, the money has gotten out of control.

Many of the reasons for players to stay, like to carry on tradition or establish a dynasty...that mindset is gone. Look at the NBA, players go to the money and switch teams. There is zero loyalty in sports today because the money is the most important and only thing for the players and owners to care about at the end of the day.

It is sad actually.

We played right with MSU last year on a neutral court in big ten tourney and they lost Green from that team and ranked #1.

Kansas is ranked below them and I think with the addition of uthoff and a year experience, we have a better team.

I also think Kansas is young which can put them in danger of inconsistent performances.

Why would you think we couldn't compete??

Hey everyone, here's to a good first post:

I definitely think Iowa can beat Xavier and Tennessee, which I think they will. However, while I believe they can beat Kansas, I just don't think they will.

Good luck to you guys, stay undefeated so we can both square off ranked on Dec. 13th! Got some good seats for that game!

An honest question for sure .. and a valid one.

The answer is simple. 3 games in 3 days.

If Iowa was playing Kansas on 2 or 3 days rest, the Jayhawks talent would more than likely beat the Hawkeyes talent. Their top 7 would probably beat Iowa's top seven any day.

But given that this is a 3 game tournament played in 3 days, Iowa's depth has a chance of beating Kansas's youth and talent .. .. on the 3rd day.

Do I think it will happen? Probably not. But the chance is there and that's why the game is played.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

I think Iowa comes out of the tourney 2-1. I think there will be plenty of excitement around the ISU game when it gets here. I'm getting jacked for 3 games in 3 days right now though.

Welcome aboard, and keep on posting.

I understand the depth argument, but if Kansas has a couple easy games, especially, the first one I don't think they get worn down easy.

Also, I think they have okay depth, but they are more than just Wiggins and sometimes I think people forget about that.

I am not counting Iowa out of the game if they get that far, but it will be a very difficult game, but that is why we play the games.

Thanks for all the input folks!
