Barta: Disappointed in 7-5, but believes Ferentz knows the way out. Hopes Norm's health allows him to continue; won't micromanage KF's staff

Interpretation:

7-5 is not anywhere close to good enough for the Iowa Hawkeyes now or in the future.
Our coach has proven that he can do better, we'll give him the opportunity to do so.
I am not going to tell our coach who should be on the sidelines with him. He owns his successes and failures solely by himself.

I like all three messages there a lot.

I agree with your take that the messages are good. You don't want the fan base to think 7-5 is good with the expectations and you shouldn't micromanage Ferentz.....but....let's be honest, Ferentz has much more power at Iowa than Barta. Sure Barta may be his boss but he really has little power over him. Ferentz has done so many great things at Iowa that Barta can't touch him.

So Barta can't micromanage Ferentz. He can't make him fire his staff. Same for schools like Penn State and Joe Pa. Joe Pa has more power at that university than their AD does. It doesn't happen to a lot of schools but Iowa is one of them

I'm sorry I'm just not buying into you thinking that KF is untouchable. The bottomline is that KF is not even remotely close to being on the firing line.

Why would Barta micromanage something that has for the most part very successful. Iowa exceeded expectations in 2009 and didn't meet them in 2010. Time to move on.

And didn't meet them in 2005 or 2006 or 2007 or 2008 (given the amount of NFL guys on that team and we were a pass interference call on Stross vs PSU from being at 5-5 thru 10 games that year).

I would argue that 2008 we exceeded expectations. Please remember KF was still trying to get Jake the QB job.. Stanzi finally took over and away we went. Iowa lost 4 games that season by 1, 3, 3 and 5 pts.

KF is untouchable at the University. Has he underachieved a couple years according to some? Sure. But that doesn't change the fact that he has been more successful than any coach in Iowa history (football).

Gary Barta has done nothing at Iowa. He hasn't shown anything and doesn't have the power to throw KF under the bus at all. Can you imagine if he had? He would be getting killed by the media and fans. He knows his place at Iowa.

So while I like what he said, I ask, what else was he going to say?

Correct as usual Prdatr. Kirk is no where even close to being on the hot seat. Laughable really.

KF needs to win 16 games in the next two seasons to avoid being on the hot seat.

He is our coach 100% through 2012 regardless of what happens next year as well he should be.

Agreed. KF is certainly not "untouchable". As for the argument that he has more power than Barta, that's just false. Anytime somebody else has the power to fire you, THEY have the power, not you. Barta is considerably more powerful than KF, even if a decision to fire him would eventually result in Barta himself filling out job applications.

The reason he won't micromanage KF is because there's not a reason to micromanage KF. We were a good team this year with no ability to seal the deal. We're not a greasefire that can't be fixed and we're not a team that wins by 3 and gets blown out by 35 in back to back weeks. The problem with this year's team was the players, not the coaches. And while it's true that it's up to the coaches to get the most out of the players, there's only so much a coach can do when the team quits.

Wow. This statement is so full of lies it's.....I don't have even have a proper adjective to describe just how wrong this post is.

Could you be any more wrong?

First, Ferentz isn't the most successful coach in Iowa history. Evy and Hayden might have a thing or two to say about that.

Barta hasn't done anything at Iowa, huh? Nothing other than grow donations during the worst economy in 75 years, get a new basketball practice facility built, renovate Carver-Hawkeye....you know, things an AD is judged on.

What expectations were in 2006? Holy cow, how quickly we forget.

As far as 2007, there was certainly an expectation to make a bowl, not get sacked 46 times, and beat Western Michigan. Fail, fail and fail.

You could have just answered my question. To the best of my knowledge, wasn't in any pre-season polls in 2006. They certainly didn't finish the year in the top 25 either, and had a losing record, so they wouldn't have been in the top 25 before 2007 either.

Did I just answer my own question?

You really think this was Barta? Really? Come on man....really?

Ferentz did all those things. You don't think Ferentz taking Iowa to the Orange Bowl has anything to do with that? Jon Miller had figures up before the season showing that Iowa football makes the county 100 million a year. Ferentz success is directly related to donations being up, practice facility being build, etc.

You can say all you want but Ferentz has more power at Iowa than Barta. He makes the school the money, he brings in the results, he's paid more, etc. It's not even up for logical debate

Name one thing I am wrong about. One.

Barta fired the basketball coach and raised 40 million for a new practice facility during the worst three year stretch in program history.

That qualify?

Your statement that Barta "doesn't do anything" is nothing more than a flat out lie. Take it back to CyFan where such falsehoods are accepted as gospel.
