Barta on Coker

What OK4P said.

Given that we are a multimillion dollar enterprise, the lack of PR ability is disturbing.

Secondly, I find it hard to believe that Barta could say this, and not one person in the media thought to ask, "we thought Marcus was suspended, having an invitation to come back suggests that he is not currently on the team. Did you misspeak, or is being suspended no longer an accurate characterization of Marcus' situation?"

If what I heard was true, then I don't really understand why kirk isn't openly defending him. I understand the loyalty for the university. But if you'd have told me that one of my football players was being investigated for being on this side of an issue, I'd laugh in your face and I'd make sure the accuser was on his way out. This jeopardizes his future outside of football. Folks, if what I heard is true, a big ten football player should get an award instead of suspension.

I won't debate that. PR is just not a strong suit in Iowa City

Not only is it not a strong suit, they really seem to be getting worse at it. I almost cringe with every press release or "answer" to a question that comes from the athletic department.

Someone posted last week that Albert Young was the last senior tailback the hawks have had.....At this point I am going to assume the worse and say he won't be back. I think his mom wants him to play closer to home anyway. Nothing would surprise me.

interesting.

Don't flatter yourself - none of us "Folks" really give a rat's @ss what "you heard".

I am hearing Ferentz is not happy with Coker's suspension and did not agree with it. President Mason and Barta made the decision to suspend Coker. Ferentz is not real happy with Barta about the decision.

One day we will find out the truth.

and that fills in the gap as to why coker has an 'invitation to come back'. maybe he was so pizzed about it he left the team because of the suspension. also explains why KF said 'we'll have to live with it'.

couple the above with droid's post and it makes sense, if coker thought or thinks, along with KF, that coker was/is in the right, then the suspension is tough to swallow and might cause a young man make a rash decision - i.e. to leave.

by my take a suspension means you are basically off the team until it is up. correct me if im wrong here but if they are suspended they arent able to be a part of team functions such as practice and others. so my belief is once the suspension is lifted he can choose to rejoin the team like someone could choose to leave the team without being suspended.

hopefully he is back next year because he is a big time back and we need him to take pressure off the receiving corp that is losing the best ia receiver ever.

If this is something that is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things (which I think is the case), you sure as heck would have thought someone could have come out and said something to ward off the rampant speculation that has taken place.

At this point, do we really expect better of Iowa's PR department?

One would think they would learn from past situations, but they never seem to. Which I guess that fits, because it seems like Ferentz never learns from past situations.

Could explain the "weird" press release from Kirk saying that he was committed to Iowa the night of Coker's suspension being announced. Maybe a reminder that Kirk has given his life to Iowa and a little support would be appreciated? Absolute speculation...

very well could be.

Where else can Coker go and be the only RB the team uses? He is luck y he isn't playing anywhere else, or he might have to compete for his job, share carries, etc. I like Coker, hope he returns, but think the handling of the RB position this year was a complete miscarriage. Yards don't equal wins KF.

No $hit Sherlock.

I dont think he took part in any bowl prep after the 18th, and basically was out of the mix. I believe the same applied for Adam Robinson last year, up until he got busted on the eve of the bowl game
That makes sense because of the suspension. But i would still think he would be thought of as part of the team. The way Barta phrased that makes it sound like he isn't currently part of the team.

semantics dude. wake up and quit trying to read into it more than it is.
