Barta - "I'm 100% behind Todd"

After readin that article, I am convinced that Barta is blind to the folly of his own hire. Like most of us, he doesnt want to fail, and with TL, he doesnt want to admit....or, more disturbing, he may actually believe all the crap he spews about Lickliter and this team. Whatever. Its obvious he isnt out in the real world, where Iowa Mens BB isnt relevant, where most are so tuned out that they dont know (or care) when the games are played (much less who they are playing), and will not support a program that is offering no hope (except in Barta's mind), is mind numbingly awful to watch, and depresses the faithful who have long lived and died with this program. Nice way to screw it up Gary.

Barta is a fool for opening his mouth. He should have just stayed quiet and let the fans and boosters fire Lickliter for him...now people are going to see Barta and Lickliter as a team...big political error on Barta's part. If you have a choice, always let someone else do your work for you while you sit back and look good and get paid...

Awesome, can we get rid of them both in a package deal? The thing is that this whole mess needs to be blown up again which is just going to prolong the time in the basement. When Barta says he got riled up, well that is how I feel every time I get to Carver and see the talent disparity between Iowa and its opponent.

I agreee if Bart does not get rid of lick at seasons end the way things are going how about we can them both.

I just don't think Barta will get rid of TL. It will take some big boosters or someone up the chain of command (school president) that will have to force him. He gave SA an ultimatum but I am about 99% sure that he wouldn't have gotten rid of him either, he just got lucky SA quit. Maybe we'll get lucky this year too!

There are public relations alternatives to "ripping" the head coach that wouldn't make Barta sound like he has his head in the sand, or some other very dark space.

And Barta has done that before with Alford.

I think this one can be taken at face value.

And I'm sure this would make prospecting coaches comfortable. Slow to invest in practice facilities, fans that call for firing within one season, and a AD that is publicily non-support and left articles of these with statements such as "Barta was not available for comment".

He's the AD, he has to have communication with the press.

It's too late now. He wasn't out in front of this. He's being reactive to the Media not proactive. It took negative attention to get Barta to come out and that is usually a sign of a downhill slide towards a major change. I think we could see kind of an NFL type, "the head coach can stay but replace your assistants" to try and appease the boosters and the fanbase...I am in favor of a complete overhaul.

barta will not do anything, he will stand behind lick and allow him to coach for years to come. As long as football is raking in the millions, he could care less about basketball. I can't believe he is blaming the ticket office for the orange crush, i mean come on it actually made carver look somewhat full. If an opposing team is bringing in more fans than the home team, then I think that should be a signal to Barta that its time for a change!

Barta needs to make a push to get this practice facility done. Once that is completed there should be no excuses for not putting a winning team on the floor. Iowa will have top notch facilities to go along with a very well paying head coaching position.

I've got to imagine that any AD that says anything about his current coach is going to give the vote of confidence. Barta already acknowledged in that article that things aren't where he wants them to be, but I can't imagine Barta coming out and saying that he doesn't think Lickliter can get it done. How would that look?

Kind of a "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" type of situation for any AD I think. Probably best to keep it to yourself if you're having doubts about your head coach, or it would blow up in your face rather quickly, I would imagine.
