Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said he fully supports coach Kirk Ferentz after a 28-17 loss to Northwestern this weekend, Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register reported. The Hawkeyes have lost by a combined 35 points the past two weeks. “Obviously, we're not playing very well right now,” Barta said. “We'll get ready for next week. I have full support for Kirk (Ferentz) and the players.”

Not a real shocker, coming from the man who handed out this albatross of a contract.

But yeah, pretty sure Lick got the ole "vote of confidence" shortly before being canned too, though, as travisam pointed out. :p

The last 2 home games will be interesting, I wonder when we will start seeing empty seats disguised as fans. I really hope that Kinnick doesn't turn into Memorial stadium east against Nebraska. 10,000 Nebby fans making it look/sound like 30,000 invaded Kinnick.
 
Question is, does GarBar have the confidence of Sally Mason? I hope not.
 
Barta should give his full suport to Ferentz because IMO, he joins Ferentz out the door if it comes to that.
 
im glad he gave him the buyout. it will keep him from being pressured into a rash decision based on short term results.
 
Kirk probably has 2 years to do something. Then Barta will be shown the door, then 1 year after that Kirk would be as well.

Exactly. He is not going to come out and say I wish I would not have given him the contract that goes on until 204ever.

This was going to happen anyway...if we continue to lose it will be embrassing all the red in the stadium.

I live in Nebraska and all the Husker fans I know are planning on going to this game. So based on that I would say there is going to be a pretty big red contingency present. They'll be loud and all decked in red, it could be ugly. I just hope they aren't playing to go to the B1G championship and do to us like we did to Minny back in '02 I think it was. I thought that was one of the most hilarious things ever at the time, hope karma doesn't come back in the form of 30K rednecks running all over Kinnick tearing down our goalposts. They're obnoxious enough as it is, I don't think I could stomach that, or Kinnick being referred to as Memorial East.

I agree with this. He has new coordinators, position coaches, and a really young team. In the next two years, we SHOULD see very solid improvement. If not...out!

It's never cool when it's the other rednecks running around. Our rednecks are kewl.

I'm in the same line of thought pmc. But I think if we get blown out another game or two, don't go to a bowl game and see more of the same next year he could get that axe then. While this is the first time I sympathize with the 'Fire Ferentz' crowd, in my opinion he has earned another year to right the ship. If he can't do it then its time to start looking seriously for a replacement. Bob Diaco is getting to be a pretty hot name right now...
