Not surprising at all. From what I've heard from some of my Badger buddies in Madison, Barry has had trouble keeping his hands out of the cookie jar. Perhaps his inability to relinquish control is one of the reasons BB said screw it. But that's just speculation on my part.
That's got to be it. Honest to god, how could anyone serving full-time as an athletic director and 7 years removed from a coaching position, be better suited than a current assistant to take over the team a few weeks before the biggest game of the season?
What could he have been doing as athletic director? He must have have attended every single football practice, watched film, studied the playbook, discussed personnel and schemes with the assistants...I always thought Bielema was kind of an a**, but thinking about Alvarez's overbearing ways makes me feel sorry for him.
Alvarez is like the cranky, former college athlete who refuses to coach his son's little league team, but shows up for every practices and tells the players and dad who volunteered to coach what they are doing wrong.
