Thanks for the blast from the past, JPOHawk. I remember those days well. Relegated to listening to many games on the radio back then in CR ... but grew to love Ron Gonder at WMT so much that for the televised games we would often turn down the TV volume and turn up the radio just to hear his enthusiasm for the Hawks.

No problem. I had season tickets in the old south end zone bleachers and I think they were $56.00 per ticket for the season. The good old days

After the 5 season of former HS coach Bob Cummings, AD Bump Elliot "hit it out of the park" with the hiring of Hayden Fry. The rest is history........

Just wanted to check in as an old dog Hawkeye who stood watch for 4 years during the Commings era.....Not dissing anyone at all....then or now....anyone who plays ball at this level deserves our respect...l am Just offering a respectful reminder that all Hawkeye fans should take notice and have total respect for the total program that has been brought forth by Hayden and now KF and staff....I totally agree with both JPO and Napleshawk....I would suggest that all Hawkeyenationals are on the same page...We all just express it differently....Keep the faith...be open minded...and have respect for ALL associated with such a great program....Denard who?....Bring it on baby!

You like defense. Go pull the stats on the 1981 season. Best ever allowing only 259 yds total per game, 129 points total.
Voted DE on All Iowa Team of the 80's and inducted into U of Iowa Varsity Hall of Fame.

Pick 41 1982 in NFL Draft by Patriots.
11 years in NFL with Patriots.
5 time Pro Bowl Selection
All-decade team 1980's
Inducted into NFL Hall of Fame

All of this and he was/is a soft spoken, gentle giant as well as a true gentlemen in every sense of the word!

The bar is set very high and I for one, will be cheering on Sunday's for Clayborn and Ballard that they have as great if not greater pro career than Andre Tippet.

Two that jump out to me:

1.Highest consecutive season sack total by linebacker in NFL History.
2.In 2008 named by a panel of former NFL players to the All-Time 3-4 defensive team along with Lawrence Taylor, Howie Long and others.

He also happened to be a black belt in karate and returned to Iowa during his off seasons in the NFL to earn his degree.

IMO they have equal physical tools. They will both make serious $ in the NFL. But Clayborn might have an edge in the "mean-streak" category, at least that's what I heard last time I was in Iowa City riding in a cab.
