Pat Forde and Gregg Doyel just tweeted that Ballard and Stanzi shouldn't be drafted because they didn't fly back to Iowa City to be with their teammates...

Has anybody ever cost themselves more money than Jake Locker? He may not even go in Round 1 now.

No kidding. Similar situation to Leinart a few years ago when he was the lock #1 pick and then fell the following year. Andrew Luck should hope to avoid that next year after his decision to stay in school.

Leinart was still drafted #10 the next year. Falling from the probable #1 pick in the draft to the 2nd round is unprecedented.

Jake Locker doesn't care. At all. It's one thing I love about the guy, he has a great perspective on life.

He's not the scholar Nile Kinnick was, but he's got the same "good people" gene.

The whole Locker thing was just waiting to happen. This kid has been living off unsubstantiated hype for years. He has physical ability, but he is not that great of a QB.

This is why it is ridiculous to predict a QB's worth until draft workouts occur. Matt Leinart didn't cost himself money by playing his senior year. He just ended up not testing well. Sam Bradford didn't cost himself money by getting hurt his senior year. Jake Locker didn't cost himself money, because a QB's worth is derived from their workouts. Anything before that is meaningless.

I don't see that happening to Luck, barring injury. Luck has it all. Leinart wasn't overly mobile, and lacked elite arm strength (not to mention focus off the field). Locker is just an athlete with a big arm, it was inevitable that he would get exposed (honestly, he has been for much of his career).

Luck has a great head on his shoulders (both in terms of character and mind for the game), size, mobility, accuracy, and a cannon for an arm. He's not going anywhere.

It will NOT happen to luck, just like it didn't happen to Bradford.

Guess what, it didn't happen to Leinart either. If Leinart had gone through draft workouts as a junior and was predicted as a number one, then you could make that argument. But he didn't go through workouts. When he did, they found out he wasn't as good as people once thought. He was still ridiculously lucky to get his draft payday.

If they let players go through draft workouts as a JR, and still come back to school, then it would be different.

EXACTLY and that idiot Luginbill (who always makes negative comments about Iowa) and Rod Gailmore? Have big mouths big opinions little brains.

Nice to see Ballard grade out at a 1st round pick according to this write. Not sure if all NFL teams will grade him in the 1st round but I'm sure some will.

Just don't be surprised if he doesn't get picked in the 1st round. There are many players that have been graded a 1st round pick that didn't get picked in the 1st round. See Mike Singletary.

I say he will be a early to mid 2nd round pick. Not because of his talent isn't a first rounder but because the NFL draft will probably shift to DB and OL picks in the late 1st round.

Tim Tebow didn't throw a single pass in the NFL combine and he moved up. As mentioned by Caarhawk, it just depends on how you perform when given your chance, like at the campus draft workouts, etc. There is a lot of time and behind the scenes practicing and displaying between bowl game to draft day.
