Bad Loss!

Man oh man, I hope you all keep your knife drawers locked and use electric razors. I also hope you all live alone. I feel sorry for your families if you are like this after every Iowa loss.[/QUOTE

Not sure what you are trying to point out? I am not reading about anybody wanting to riot or fire the coach or bench the players? I do hear fan's and their disappointment in a loss that we think the Hawks should have won. Is that ok with you? And by the way, my wife, three kids, two dogs, one cat, two frogs and nine fish are all alive and happy! I even have loaded guns in the house......and on every floor???

I disagree. Yes the shooting sucks. But certain lineups are mind boggling and there is little toughness with this team. They are soft and I'm being nice using the word soft. Even the coach, after the MSU game, said Iowa lacked toughness. That is stating the obvious as we witnessed tonight.

Disagree all you want. We shoot 70% from the line and 25% from 3 and we win tonight. And about 3 other games we lost.

All the questioning of "toughness", lineups, etc is crap. This team fights. Everybody wants to question "mental toughness" when really its not making baskets, its BS and a cop out.

lol no they aren't.

This really shows how bad Alford and Lick hurt this program. We don't know how to handle potential success. We had high expectations and now when there are bumps in the road they are losing their minds. Not making the tourney? Wow. I thought I flew off the handle, but that's just stupid.

BULL! One certain senior played the second most minutes tonight (22) but had the worst shooting night of any Hawk and that is saying a lot based on how poorly they shot the ball.

A certain junior played 3 less minutes then the aforementioned and didn't miss a shot form the field or a free throw. Lineups do matter and the lack of toughness matters as well. Toughness breeds success. Lack of toughness results in guys being tentative.

Two things bother me about this loss - besides the usual disgust at our shooting, which several others have pointed out.

One is how, as a team, we do not seem to be improving as the season goes along. If we were being crippled with injuries and had a short bench and a quick turn-around from our last game, I might understand. We don't - in fact, if anything you would think our depth would REALLY start having an effect this time of year.

The other thing seems to be our lack of leadership. The ESPN announcers pointed that out. From a players only meeting tOSU had a week ago, to the fact that a leader (Craft) gathers his team together after every foul, something no one from Iowa apparently ever does, to wondering who is going to settle the troops and be a floor captain when things aren't going well, this is not good - and it was really obvious during this game.

I don't know if the problem with the latter is no one true "chiefss" or way too many who can't settle who will be the chief of chiefs. But we had better get this solved soon.

I have no issue with this frustration. Its tough to keep losing like we have, especially at home. 60% from the line and 13% from three....you won't win too many.

The issue is not effort, lineups, toughness, etc. Its shooting...period.
You know I like ya..... but why oh why are Woody ?and?Gabe sitting when the game is on the line?

As earlier posted, the depth SHOULD be a big advantage now, but as in previous seasons we struggle to have anyone that is gamer, that can carry the team consistently through dry spells.
Where was Uthoff? We are seeing he is not Big Ten ready yet. I am not giving up on Gesell yet, but he is not the floor leader he was predicted to be yet.
Maybe if Fran can get one or both of these Juco players he is recruiting, they will step in with a chip on the shoulder attitude and score points and show how to kick a** to finish a game.

Sigh.... Just don't know what to say anymore. Iowa can NOT win big games. Period. They proved it last year, and are proving it again this year. I'm so disappointed. Yeah, go ahead and rip me a new one. I couldn't care less.

Problem is this wasn't even a big game and they lost....

I had a commitment tonight and couldn't watch the game, but I thought this is one Iowa should bag pretty handily....and I come home, and they LOSE??? WTH happened?

Gotta win at home and now we have lost 2. Both hard to swallow. The MSU one only because they were injured but we still couldn't take advantage and this OSU team can't score... But neither can we in the half court.

I thought Matta out coached Fran and a couple examples...

Aaron White got a fast break layup and Matta immediately called a timeout and chewed his team. He knew they couldn't win in an uptempo game but if they kept is in the half court they could hang around and maybe score enough to win which turned out to be the case.

The other example was the timeout he called to draw up a play with 2 seconds on the shot clock and the result was a lob for an uncontested dunk.

Exactly, it makes no sense to say lineups dont affect shooting.

When one guy is shooting like 90% for two games in a row and the other cant make anything and you play the one who cant hit crap more minutes, well no chit your shooting numbers dont look good.

Yes, I doubt we drop 9 spots losing to OSU, who will likely now be ranked again. If We lose on Sat, we'll be just outside the top 25

We'll be fine.

Be fine until losing at home to mich, @minny, @Indiana @ mich st and at psu, then we will be looking at a 9-9 conf season and desparate and needing to get into the B10 semis.......should be able to host a first round NIT game again, can't for that. Rising or Falling or should we say remaining stagnate.
