B1G Writers Pick Iowa 5th in Legends

I'm thinking toss-up with Minny for the basement. God that's depressing.

There is no reason to expect Iowa to be ranked any higher than they are in this article. I don't think they'll do quite that bad, but noboy can blame any sports writer for ranking them near the basement this year.

I'm surprised 4 writers picked Michigan State to win the Legends division. It's got to be between Michigan and Nebraska as the favorites. Why would MSU be any better than last year?

I don't know. That being said, I probably have about as much knowledge of MSU as most of the writers that voted do about all the schools they don't cover. All most of them know is A. were they good last year? and B. Are they almost always good?

There, now make your prediction.

I nominate these writers as the second worse writers in the world so there! This article is a complete waste of time.

It's not about where you start in the season in the polls, its about where you finish. If I were writing about Iowa, I'd probably have them in 5th too, but as a fan I'm optimistic we finish 3rd or better in the Legends division.

I realize it's anecdotal but Iowa seems to do surprisingly well when they are considered the underdog.

Hawks make enough noise this year to finish 4 th in the dev. Enough tallent on the Defense to keep games close into the 4th qtr

Keep those expectations low so that we can surprise people. I like it.

But Nebraska? I was listening to a sportstalk radio station out of Omaha today, and they were talking about how Nebraska would beat tOSU in the championship game. Nauseating.

I bet those dumb dumbs dont know that Iowa is going to win 10 games and beat OSU on the road. You should send in your resume because you are way more on top of things than these clowns.

Our division is so bad for this coming season that honestly anyone other than Minnesota could probably win it. Northwestern was a few late game meltdowns last year away from going undefeated and has two returning QBs who are probably better than the other QBs in the division, but they lost a lot of guys off both sides of the lines. But they could win the thing. They could also finish fifth or sixth when they find out that without an o-line their team stinks. Iowa is another big question mark. If we have a QB, we could win the division. If we don't, 5th or 6th is a reasonable guess. I mean, all we need to do is find a QB on par with either Vince Young or Colt McCoy and we'll be right in the middle of the hunt with Greg Davis calling the plays. That is not outside of the realm of possibility.

The key numbers to this season are these that these writers are not paying attention to: 8+2+0=10 Teams that return 8 starters on defense win more games, Iowa returns 8. Teams with 2 returning starting kicking specialists (kicker and punter) win more games. The plus 0 is starts among returning quarterbacks. Iowa teams under KF have all won 10 or more games (2002, 2003, 2004) so there is the 10 wins, 8+2+0=10 wins or more!

I like the way you figure. It reminds me of Ma and Pa Kettle...
