B1G West vs East

If you go through the records of the teams slated to be in the west they had a 6 and 14 record against the east. You might be saying that bad? A big part of the reason is Purdue and Illinois, which were 8 of the 14 losses to the east. Nebraska and Minnesota had 4 of the 6 wins and Iowa and Wisconsin had one each. MSU and OSU owned 8 wins against the new West.

It does feel like the West will be the weaker division, especially with Purdue and Illinois moving into the west. At least Wisconsin moving west helps bring some equity. The future cross division games will play a big part in who wins the west.

B1G West = Big 12 North

Lets look at the Big Ten Championship games in the first two years:

Wisky over MSU
Wisky over Nebby

So, only one of the participants will be in the new Big Ten East....MSU.
The other three participants are Wisky/2, and Nebby.
The only winner is from the new West...Wisky

Wisky was in the Rose Bowl 3 straight years, they are a top team in this league, while Neb. is a top 6 legacy program. Add in an improving Iowa and Minny, and dangerous NW....the West will not be easy and will win their share of Big Ten title games....just watch.

But if we add 2013 to the data and look at the way teams are trending (Wisc down, MSU up) it paints a less rosy (pun, ha) picture of the future West.

I hope the west teams suck so Iowa can win the division ever year.

I'm not even sure you can count Wisconsin's B1G championship last year. They finished the regular season 7-5 (4-4) and finished 3rd in their own division. You could make a strong case they were the worst Rose Bowl rep from the B1G ever.

They still embarassed Nebraska in the title game

Good point. They won the game in dominating fashion. However, not sure how big of a deal that really is. A lot of B1G teams have embarrassed Nebraska since they joined the conference, including Iowa last weekend.

I believe they put up 70 points in that title game vs Neb.....Wisky did more than dominate...wipeout.

EXACTLY SO.

The west division may not be as much of the cakewalk as some people believe. The red giant to the west is not about to burn out and become a black hole any time soon. Wisconsin will be competitive and anybody who has seen Minnesota's new stadium knows that somebody up there has a fat checkbook. Northwestern has given us fits as of late and Illinois and may be a sleeping giant.

"Except in the Big 12 North, Nebraska was the clear cut leader with Missouri and Kansas State typically battling it out for second place."

And it wasn't that often that Missouri or KSU had any relevance outside of the B12N.
