B1G Player of the Year tracker: Marble at No. 1 - BTN.com

The last time Iowa had a truly legit candidate was the year Woolridge led the league in scoring and assists but lost out to Bobby Jackson of Minnesota.

Iowa has never had one.

Wow. That's a long time! If Marble ends up getting it, I wonder how he will be remembered years down the road compared to his dad. (for those that don't know, his dad is the all time leading scorer at Iowa. They still show him in the crowd from time to time)

Keep in mind the award did not start until the middle 80's. I think Roy Tarpley won the first POY.

I believe it will be Harris's to lose...I want marble to win it but I just think because of the fact he plays at msu and with the extended time out for Payne and Dawson....Harris will get the nod unless he really falters.

We don't have Payne or Dawson either. In fact, seeing as they could lose two major players simultaneously goes to prove, almost CONCRETE proof, that they could have instead lost Harris and have been just fine. Is that the case for us? Are the guys backing up MSU superstars on the level as Jok and Clemmons? My guess would be yes. If you can be easily replaced you shouldn't win this award.

The thing with Woolridge still irks me to no end. That was our first year post Murray-Millard-Glasper and Settles was experiencing his injury bug from the jump that year, yet Woolridge still finished better than Jackson across the boards. It was awarded based on team wins. I understand it's a factor, but not when the better guy had his team only one slot behind in the standings.
