Austin Vier

Does anyone know what position he has decided to play if he has chosen one?

last i knew he was still undecided

Derby made a very positive splash at QB this spring. I think that kinda closed down his chances at QB right there. TE is a very natural position for him given his size and athleticism. Having QB smarts and an Iowa work-ethic will likely help him out a lot at the TE spot too.

It doesn't really matter what he has decided to play, the coaches will get him in the right spot when he gets on campus and starts practicing. His size and athleticism make him a good option for a lot of positions.

He could end up being an offensive tackle, or defensive end for all we know.

We are all aware that the coaches will put him in the right position that will help the team win. This is a few Q&A from a recent interview posted on hawkeyereport.com.

Q: Coming in, is the plan still to start out at quarterback and just see how it goes?

VIER: Actually, I was talking to Coach Morgan and Coach Johnson and I'm going to start out at tight end now. They told me I could do whatever I want, but I think I can play a little bit earlier at tight end and contribute to the team more there, so I decided to go that route.

Q: Was that a tough decision for you?

VIER: No, not really. I was fine with either one. I played a little bit of tight end in high school and I'm really excited about the new experience.

I think most kids want to play a lot and as early as possible. I would think most of them are open to switch for those reasons.

This is a very good choice on his part. His Qb skills were very suspect in the early season when I saw him playing. In all fairness he had been hurt but his pocket presence was horrendous. He never moved but I did notice his speed to the sideline after 3rd down was impressive. And NO I not trying to be a jerk with that statement.
