No it does not count as a home game. There is no doubt in my mind that we will surpass last years attendance. The SIU Ed game was after our trip to Puerto Rico, or wherever they were last year.

Well you can count on 12 extra bodies in the seats next Wednesday night as I will be there with some friends. The day before Thanksgiving might get a decent attendance, especially if they beat Creighton.

It's been disappointing so far. The only reason we had close to 13,000 against Chicago St. was because there were so many Dance Marathon participants there and they got in for free.

Pretty pathetic Hawk fans.

Pathetic, really? I'm sorry, but I don't think many people can justify the cost of driving, tickets, concessions, etc... for games against Chicago State, NIU, and NCAT.

Keep in mind that the SIU-E game last year was on a Friday night. The first three home games last year were Sunday, Tuesday, Friday. This year it was Friday, Monday, Thursday. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games generally will draw larger crowds than weeknight games, so I think it's fair to say even though the numbers have been down through three games, attendance has actually been "better."

Also, I wonder what attendance would have looked like had the Monday game not been on a week when the Vikings and Packers were the MNF matchup. Those are two of the most popular teams in Iowa, so I could see that keeping a few hundred people at home.

I think it also depends on how far one would have to drive for a weeknight game. Basketball games are short, and often on weeknights. If you live in IC or CR, great. It's not so easy to go to basketball games after work, and if you have other things going on in your life on weekdays, IMHO.

If I'm not mistaken the Monday game vs NCA&T also competed against the Iowa City Regina football playoff game, which probably stole several fans away from the BB game.

But while tickets sold may be slightly down year over year, in my opinion the actual attendance and buzz around the games appears to be up.

I can understand not wanting to spend the cash to do this if you don't live in the IC area. I did take advantage to the exhibition game. $5 for adults kids for free. We headed up early ate a late lunch and went to the game.

So if it is the competition that is stopping you, did you get the BigTen weekend package? That's what me and my pops did and I take two kids with me. Eat before you go to the game or eat after the game. You don't have to spend any money inside the arena. Yeah of course I don't like telling my kids no, but they also can't have everything they want in life.
