Five or six years ago, Per Mar types checked people's student ID at the edge of the student section during every game. For whatever reason, they stopped doing that sometime in the past 3-4 years, and it was fine for a while. Yes, some extra people would sit there during the games, but space was never really an issue; students either packed in tighter or went further up in the stands.
Today was different. The entire student section was packed to capacity ten minutes before the game started (in recent years that would take until about halfway through the first quarter, even for big games). I obviously can't say with certainty, but I think it's fair to say that at least 30% of the student section was comprised of non-students considering the large number of ISU fans and 50-year-olds sitting there. Subsequently, there were hundreds of students (both in the south endzone and on the press box side) sitting and standing in the aisles and walkways for a lot of the game because they didn't have anyplace else to go.
It was one thing to look the other way when there was always more room at the top, but situations like these are totally unfair to the student population. It's the equivalent of overselling a section for them. Too many people are taking advantage of the lax seating policy and it's hurting students. Please address this in some way.
I realize this is not the ideal place to post this, but I wanted to post this publicly prior to writing the AD. If you're reading this and in a position to pass it on to someone who needs to read it, that would be appreciated.
