It will be a long time before iowa has blitzed enough for me to start complaining about how often we blitz. I have always complained about never putting pressure on the qb and letting them get comfortable.

Must admit that I HAVE to question the LB's, who are so young blitzing.

Shouldn't LTP, Carl Davis, Ott, Meier/Hardy be able to apply pressure?

I dunno about this take. It's a damned if he does or doesn't situation. A few years ago I would have given up drinking for Iowa to bring more then 4 rushers pretty much ever. So now that the D is playing more aggressively I'm not going to bash them for that. Now the terrible tackling and execution of different things you bet that's on the table.

i was fine with the blitzing. It's on the team to recognize the screen and adjust.

Iowa's LB's and safeties today were really disappointing.

Worst offensive line play since 2012 that's for sure. Wow...that was awful. Scherff and Blythe looked like they forgot how to play. Brandon flat out looked awful...and I can't ever remember seeing someone push him backward...and he didn't move his feet.

That being said, you can't play defense against a spread, read option team if you don't have speed at LB. One of our inside LB's was lost today...completely and utterly lost. He looked like he was playing with his eyes closed and he was overmatched with the pace of the game. Same with the safety everyone knows is an underwhelming athlete. Maryland schemed to get Diggs matched up on our safeties...and it was a great move...we couldn't guard him. Time to get Jewel in the game and Gair in the game every play...that's a speed upgrade we really need.
