As a fan, how does this compare to 2002?

I was a little young and family had moved out of Iowa area so there was some disconnect.

Just curious, personally to you, how does this compare to 2002?

2002 we we're dominate late in the season and the media loved us after we destroyed Michigan. That team was probably better but they were never in control of the national championship destiny. The Buckeyes from that year kind of remind me of us this year.

It is similar in the fact that Iowa did not get a chance to face Ohio St that year.

But a difference is in 2002 Iowa got chance to prove itself because it did get to play Mich and PSU that year, which were considered powers at the time.

Imo 02 team more dominant, but with that baffling loss to the suck clones. I really wanted to have at OSU that year.

I remember being euphoric during the entire run. The first few weeks was unknown..beating Penn st....you kinda felt it was real...but down the stretch it just felt awesome to be climbing the polls. This year it's been the disrespected card that has dominated. Sure there was a sense that we thought we were as good as osu in 2002..but that loss to isu made it different than this year. Still, this season is a ton like 2002, even more than 2009, in excitement level.

If Banks didn't hurt his thumb we probably go to the championship game over Ohio state. Everyone liked us over them.

I still feel, despite the loss to ISU and USC, that the 2002 team was the best team in the Ferentz era.
It felt like at all positions we were better than every other team.
This year, it's a matter of the offensive line of scrimmage and quarterback play being the advantage, and when I say line of scrimmage, that includes the running game.

2002 was my Senior year at Iowa and it felt awesome as we saw the team go from the 1 win season a few years before to a 1 loss team. Plus we had a Heisman candidate and had a lot of media love, felt like we were the darling of the media in 2002. The excitement around campus was unequivocal to any other season I've been around in IC. This year, as mentioned everywhere, we seem to be the media whipping boy and I don't understand it. Seems like a double edge sword this year...as if we were supposed to win every game because the competition in the West is bad, but if we lose, we aren't a good team after all. As a fan, this year is also awesome even with the critics. In some ways I like the criticism more than the praise. You could argue the 2002 team was kind of patronized for leading little old Iowa to an historic season. Maybe that lead to a less than stellar bowl performance, who knows. Nothing can take away the feeling of having an undefeated season and being talked about weekly, regardless of the tone.I hope to God we go 3-0 from here on out and ESPN makes a 30-30 about the 2015 National Champion Hawkeyes and how the team who got no love b!tch slapped the rest of college football...

If you remember, Brad banks hurt his thumb on his throwing hand in the first half and Freddy Russle went down when he was pretty much having his way. 2nd half Banks had trouble holding the ball, gave the Clones and Seneca Wallace some shot fields and our RB(name escaping me) literally stopped in the backfield time after time.

That was a good ISU team too. Other than that loss, that team would have played for it all.

I think 2002 team was better, and I think USC or Iowa would have beaten both Miami and OSU.

I take nothing away from this years team, they are very good and just seem to have special chemistry, so who knows what they'll do.

I would take CJ over Banks at QB, and the RBs we have this year, but the 02 o and D lines were insane.

TE play this year has been stellar and I'm not sure as a group they aren't better even with Dallas Clark.

The 2002 season was very linear with just a bit of bump after the Hawks dismantled Michigan in the big house.

This season is on a logarithmic curve, the acceleration is getting astronomical and the angle is rapidly approaching vertical. Orbital velocity will be achieved with a win on Saturday.

If the CFPs are the in the team's destiny then we may see escape velocity and then, possibly, the speed of light attained.

Very special seasons...

These all stand out, for different reasons.

2015 Nobody saw in coming...undefeated regular season
2009 A talented team of destiny until Ricky got hurt
2004 An emotional season that defined overcoming adversity
2002 Kirk's first great one, again nobody saw it coming
1985 #1 for weeks, #1 vs #2 in Kinnick a game for the ages
1981 Iowa with its first winning season in 20 years AND back in the Rose Bowl

Man....it's great to be a Hawkeye!
