Article; Why is Iowa Hoops being overlooked?

I would like to state that I don't agree with many of the comments in this thread. Some of you cats just have a weird outlook on things.

So when others don't see Iowa it is there fault and not results on the court? I love the Hawks and growing to like FM more and more. Why would you expect outsiders to dig deeper until there are results on the table? Fran's been slowly building. Maybe one day it will be like Iowa Football in 1991. After several years of mediocrity, at the Big Media meeting Fry when asked how his football team would be simply replied, "We'll have a fine football team." No one saw it coming. If they'd won the bowl game that team would be highly recognized. They got short changed by agreements for bowls that year.

When FM's team gets recognized, it will be the same way. Probably not this year, but next.

I think Fran is already well respected as far as national pundits go. I think he's already accomplished a lot at Iowa and continues to build on a absolute SOLID rebuild of a once proud program. Iowa hoops is historically a top 25 program in college basketball. It doesn't make a blue blood, but let's not sell it short either. When others don't see it, it's pure laziness and lack of knowledge. Fran has had 4 straight All B1G selection seniors and the results on the court have been excellent. Can they be better? Yes. Do I want better? Yes. But let's not act like he's accomplished NOTHING and that's why the national pundits over look Iowa. They over look Iowa because they are hardly looking in the first place.

Valid points. Results will make the points better.

Ya know what I'm saying tho... Not having Jarrod Uthoff on your top 150 players list going into his senior year.... that's lazy. Having Iowa in all the pre-season brackets LAST season when not even their own fan base expected it? Laziness. This season - Iowa fans expect a top 5 finish and to dance and NONE of the bracket guys have Iowa in? Laziness. Meanwhile, he's got Creighton in? Who lost ther starting PG and a C that went in the 1st round?

I chalk it up to 1. Iowa needs more success like you state to be considered a player and 2. These guys are hacks, especially around this time of year.

Minnesota has sucked for years. They have one season that was better than ours because of one blown call, and every one is sucking their D. Lazy.

Bingo it's certainly both... This time of year they aren't doing any homework. They couldn't tell you Dukes starting 5 either. They just look at the colors of the jersey and know some of the 5 star studs names that were hot in recruiting. If Iowa throws up 22 wins or more finishes in top 4 of BIG and rated around 14 or higher in polls not to mention a tourney run past the first weekend I'd say that alone would get the train going for positive pub it'd be undeniable. Some of those in the media take the show me first angle on it... Well that's not necessarily wrong but again if they weren't lazy they could be first to see it coming and really stick out as a 'genius' in their world...

I all but told one of the national pundits that just the other day :)

Nice can only hope they pay attention.. You'd think if he reads what ya wrote him he'd be intreagued enough to look further. Since he wrote what he did about Garza one would think he should be...

Right, you'd think he'd at the very least check the schedule... which i think is really something to factor in for this season.

This is definitely a statement season for Iowa. They only lose Dom Uhl next year, barring transfers. If they can finish top 4 in the big ten this year and make a splash in the NCAA tournament...they're going to get preseason recognition next year for sure.

Yeah there's the unpredictability of that... Have you listened to Jon Millers Pod cast about how the Mins for everyone could be dolled out this yr? It's interesting to say the least. There's no getting around it that some players that used to play and some good darn players just aren't going to be able to play much at all... And that's with the freshman hardly playing at all to boot. If they were to put a significant dent into playing time then guys like Uhl, Wagner, Kriener would most certainly not play much at all...

Yeah minutes are going to be a huge issue in the frontcourt this year. The backcourt next year with Wieskamp coming in as well as CJ Fredrick (although he might redshirt?). Its a good problem to have overall. Transfers will happen, but that's the way it goes these days.

Yup it kinda stinks. Cause if some good players were to transfer and turn into something special compared to who stays.... You can imagine how that'd go over.. Kriener is a guy that I think can be pretty darn good yet might find himself squeezed out..

They're just lazy. Iowa is absolutely a contender for the B1G this season and return 3 players that got post season recognition last year. The last 3 seasons none of the national preseason mags had Uthoff, Jok or White in their top 150 players. Lazy. Iowa is an absolute after thought and that's the bed they made over the last 2 decades, but recent trends will hopefully buck that.

I think under the radar...is a good place to be. Let em underestimate Fran's squad... they'll make some noise this year.

also from HawkGold: The judgement will be in the results at the end of the year.

Bingo. It's amazing how many people are unable to differentiate between opinions (like preseason polls) and facts or reality. (who actually wins). But we live in an era when way too many people talk way too much...and think they know it all.
