Article regarding Gilman commitment

love it. you want guys who aren't afraid of the competition. excited to see how it all shakes out.

Now that Thomas' recruitment is over I just wanted to say a few things about this young man. I have had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Thomas the past few years through several private workouts and training sessions. The Hawks couldn't be getting a better person to represent the program. Thomas is the most driven wrestler I have been around in quite some time and I have been around many of the best. He is a kid that embraces the competition and thrives on it. He is all wrestling and his goals are steep, but if there is anyone that can reach them, it is Thomas. He is a mat rat that studies the sport endlessly. If you ever get to know Thomas, one thing you will get from him is that he loves watching, studying and learning from the Russians. While he has great respect for them, he wants nothing more than to beat them on his way to capturing his ultimate goal, the Olympic gold. I am just happy for him that he gets to realize a childhood dream, by running out of the Carver tunnel wearing the black and gold, especially since it looked like that wasn't going to happen. Congrats Hawk fans you are lucky to have such great young man like Thomas Gilman to cheer on.

I know I'm excited about this get. I've only seen one match (the one with Clark), but I was sold! This guy has what we are looking for and I was hoping like heck that we would get him. I don't know him or have seen any other matches, but I know Clark is damn good and Gilman seemed to be at another level.

In your opinion which one goes 125 and 133?

That was Thomas' worst match of the tourney, but that is what is so great about him is that even though he may not be hitting on all cylinders, he is so sound that is tough to score on him. Thomas walks around between 125-130, but definitely could grow. He is still about a year away from stepping foot on campus, so we will see where he ends up. I know he is planning on going 132 this year for the HS season.

I'm both relieved and excited we got him. It just seemed nuts to possibly not have this kid wearing the black and gold.

Any thoughts on if/when we will hear anything on the other possible commits? Skon was compared to Metcalf with how aggressive he is by TOM so I'd love to get him, it sounds like he has every bit the potential of Tsirtis or anyone else in his weight range. I have always liked Witte as an under the radar guy, he is a bull. I was very impressed with Burak as well and he would be a perfect guy to step in for Gambrall.

How about Felipe Martinez? I saw in the TOM article that Iowa was being considered; any chance we can get him?

Those were the names that TOM was given from Felipe of schools he would like to go to. Iowa is not actively recruiting Felipe Martinez at this time.

Burak, Skon, and Witte are all good possibilities for this class yet though.
