Article on Archie

Shaq's wingspan is 7'7"
Elton Brand's is 7' 5 1/2"
Dwight Howard's is 7' 4 1/2"
Greg Oden's is 7' 4 1/4'

If this kid has a 7' 2" wingspan then he can make a difference.

I think the thought all along was that Archie would really help out on the defensive end, blocking shots and rebounding. As far as offensively, the RS year was probably the best thing for him. Now, I know that does not help out with the equality of the classes, but after the injury and pneumonia, I still think it was the right choice.

Archie sounds intriguing, but considering he did not play bb til his junior year in HS, it is hard to see how his offensive skills could really be Big Ten ready. Can he catch the ball cleanly? Does he have soft touch. I keep thinking of Kurt Looby who also did not play ball until late in his career...just never made his mark offensively. But it would be nice to have a guy to protect the rim, altho lick has said he is not a fan of blocking shots...

I dont think his offensive skills need to be that polished if he has that type of wing span. Look at Dallas Lauderdale from OSU, his offense is dunks and alley-oops but he gets like 4 blocks a game and close to 10 rebounds. If archie could be a more athletic lauderdale i think that would be enough for right now.

A ''more athletic Lauderdale''?
Lauderdale was a top 60 player coming out of HS.
He is at least 250lbs.,all muscle.

Archie would look skinny next to Lauderdale right now. Maybe he can pack on some lbs,but he will never have lauderdale's big frame.

Again, if he can catch the ball well in traffic, and adds anther 20 lbs of muscle, maybe he can be close to Doug Thomas...which is pretty good.
Expecting a guy who did not start as a sophmore at Vincennes Juco to be as good as Lauderdale is a reach.

Maybe i should have said more lengthy

EDIT: Or similar to lauderdale's playing style, ie strong defensive game, offense relies heavily on dunks and 3-foot shots. Lauderdale is not a jump shooter and that is the point im trying to make with archie.

No but w/ Lauderdale's size he doesn't have to be. He is so big people bounce off of him and allows for easy close shots. Archie won't have that. I am hoping maybe Archie can come in and give us 8 minutes of really good defense against players like JuJuan Johnson, Coble, Leuar and the like. Hopefully his height and relative quickness can stay w/ them and contest perimeter jumpshots that makes those guys so dangerous.
