Article looking at Betts, Van Lith, and Morrow...prospects of coming to Iowa

From what has been written about Van Lith, apparently she made it clear in her announcement she didn't want anyone to contact her, so it sounds like she already knew where she wanted to go at the time she entered the portal. Gut feeling is that she and Clark are too similar in their skill sets for her to strongly consider Iowa as her landing place. Van Lith seems to be too unlikely to be willing to share the ball that much. Other top level schools who direly need a point guard would seem to be more attractive to her. (NOT saying she and Clark wouldn't be a dynamic duo!)

Leistikow wrote a day or two ago that Betts doesn't appear to be Iowa-bound. An article written when she announced she was leaving The Tree said she considered Notre Dame, S. Carolina, U Conn, Baylor, UCLA, Oregon & Louisville before committing to Stanford. Those first three are always national contenders, and there was just a big announcement that The Fainting Irish and Gamecocks are going to play the first ever college basketball game in Paris this coming Nov. Don't know how important that plum will be to Ms. Betts, but it is a perk that the Hawks cannot offer. S. Carolina just had their post player be the #1 pick in the WNBA draft, so in spite of Jan Jensen being the "Post Whisperer", that might also weigh heavily on her mind.

As far as the question posed in this topic--that being choosing between the two, Betts gets my vote. At 6'7" and the #1 recruit in the nation last year, Betts is 4 inches taller than Czinano, who is the player the Hawks most need to replace. If Betts is still undecided, hopefully the lure of being fed by the best point guard in the country and the reported recent surge in NIL funds available specifically for women's hoops will sway her our way!

Hit "post" too soon!

The impact of a sold out CHA and the national following the Iowa Women's Basketball team has generated in its run to the NCAA title game, including an all-time record ten million TV viewers, also has to be a huge factor for Lauren Betts to consider. Who would not want to play in front of a roaring sold out crowd of black and gold fanatics! GO HAWKS!

Van Lith did not seem to be a fan of Clark and vice versa, she is out. Love Betts but her numbers are pretty average her freshman year. The lady from Depaul is the apple of my eye. She is a scoring, rebounding, and defensive machine. Would give Iowa a toughness they haven't had. Between her and O'Grady they would make up for Monica's numbers.

Unfortunately Betts has a strong connection to UCLA and so does her HS, Michela Oniywere an All American at Ucla 2 years ago and now in wnba is also from O Gradys HS. This will likley be her landing spot.
On to the next one, we need bigs.

Here's ESPN Charlie Creme's assessment of the top 35 players in the portal. #1 is Van Lith; #2 is Aneesah Morrow, 6'1" F from DePaul; #3 is Betts.
Would Morrow and Stuelke fight over minutes, or would IA go to a 3G / 2F alignment?

Yeah, not certain how Van Lith and Caitlin would gell, both are used to running their teams completely

Betts would be quite nice to have, there is a lot of West Coast in her background. Although she is a Sophmore and theoretically would be around for two more years playing with Caitlin who might decide to stay for one more year

Morrow would fit nicely but we do need someone tall and talented in the Middle
She did lead the Big East in rebounding and that would probably translate to the BIG

Betts might be the Best Bet, although Morrow would be nice, but she is a junior and might only
be around for one year, and probably would jump to the WNBA

O'Grady and Stulke will be very good but need another year to develop

Stuelke was the primary backup 5 this year (at least by the time Iowa got to B1G season). If we had a rebounding machine like Morrow at the 4, I would absolutely feel comfortable rolling with Stuelke at the 5, with O'Grady off the bench when you need more height. You would lose the floor-stretching that Warnock provided, but you should be able to control the glass against most teams and run like crazy. You also have more playmaking so that Clark doesn't have to initiate everything. Morrow facing up from 15' and in is devastating.

Bottom line, I trust Bluder and this staff to craft an elite offense as long as they have talent. They have shown a lot of creativity throughout the years to maximize their players' strengths.

Norrow has named her top 3; South Carolina, LSU, and Arkansas

Actually not sure the logo is a Razorback, maybe it's a Terrapin. Anyway, S Crolina seems to be the fav......

Damn I was really optimistic that we could do serious damage in the portal this year. Looks like Clark is going to have to one man show it again.
