Are we a destination school?

Fran has been the head man at three other schools. If he turns Iowa around do you think this is where he wants to retire or does he look to go to an even bigger job.

Fran's dream job would be Notre Dame. The only way Fran leaves is if ND opens up or a big time school like Kansas or Kentucky wants him which I can't see happening.

Maybe you should try getting a job, then you might spend less of your time on HN.

I mean I know he was an assistant there for a while but has he ever said or is there any evidence that is his dream job?

He was an assistant there. Has he done or said anything to say that it's his destination? If I were a basketball coach that wouldn't even be on my 3 page list of places I wanted be.

I call bs. That sounds crazy.

Whattaya mean? Roads is at his dream job and dreamy mc dreamy ain't goin anywhere with all you boys drooling on him.

While that is true it doesn't mean ISU is a destination job. Could it be for the right person (Dreamy) maybe but that is for different reasons.

No school in this state whether it be Fb or Mbb is a destination job.

We are most definitely a football destination job. Think about it: the 15th largest fan base in the country, great facilities, deep pockets, sane (perhaps too sane) fanbase, low expectations, huge salary, premier conference and non-existent media market.

Iowa is a football coach's dream job. Anybody who thinks differently hasn't thought it through.

this is correct. or its only a destination job for a guy like Ferentz, with ties to the program and looking to stay in one place/job security. i think regardless of how good we can get, Fran is here to stay mostly because of his age.

yeah, but not an elite job. definitely a good money job in a premier conference. very little chance to "win big" here. i love Iowa, don't misread me, but we can't compete with the elite schools around the country due to recruiting and such.

You're spending 1998 dollars. The landscape is different. The Iowa brand is different. Coaches would be chomping at the bit to come here. All of your inferiority complexes be damned.

"A good money job in a premier conference." How many of those are there? 20? Iowa's one of them, and it's one of the most attractive for the exact reasons I outlined. In fact, recruiting is literally the only drawback...except you can recruit to Iowa. Evashevski, Fry, and Ferentz all proved it.

The next coach at Iowa is not going to get Ferrets type money.

I mean there really is no way to have evidence cuz there is no way a coach is going to flat out say that he would rather be somewhere else. I do believe thou that since he coached at ND and has always said great things of ND that if the opportunity opened up he would deeply consider it. That being said I think Fran is really happy at Iowa and I don't think he's leaving us anytime soon.

Of course not, Muschamp didn't get Meyer money, either. That almost never happens. But that guy will know that if he wins some games, gets an extension, the U could make him one of the highest paid coaches in football. That means something.

Iowa is a destination job for anything below the blue bloods. It's not Duke, NC, Kansas, Kentucky, but it's on par with the next tier down.

Same with football.

I love the ignorance of some premises. If you are a college coach, you know small town life is what you are signing up for. Iowa City is a hell of a lot nicer than most University towns.

I have heard from people close to Fran that he greatly underestimated how much he would like Iowa City and that yes, despite some people not believing it, that Notre Dame would be the only job he would leave for.
