Are the KF apologists the most hostile posters?

Golfer, you are coming on pretty strong. Just one hypothetical question: Assume you get your obvious desire, and Ferentz is fired.

Who do you think would take the Iowa job after a coach who has won almost 70% of his games the last 10 years has been fired? Who would take the job?

I know you are a tremendous football expert, so I am really looking forward to your intellligent, insightful analysis.

This was/is a rebuilding year, same as last year. We have done no better or worse than expected by reasonable fans.....

Might as well get this expectation out of the way once and for all.....

We will not win a National Championship any time in the near future, but will provide thrills and dismay for certain.....

No kidding. Didn't we lead all of college football with 9 players that made NFL rosters. This doesn't even factor in the current players who eventually will: McNutt, Reiff, Daniels and Prater. Last year's team was loaded with talent. Settling for the Insight was an absolute disappointment. Some were satisfied that we got all that matters though. A bowl win.

You have got to be f8cking kidding me - were you in a coma last year when all the pre-season hype has us ranked top ten? and even Deace was making a strong argument for a top five ranking?

.

Thanks for asking. I'm disappointed right now, and I think we need some change, but not ready to go to the extreme of change at the top quite yet.

I'd be happy with change in the AD, and the dysfunctional deference to those fans who contribute nothing. I'm not going to get into a long explanation about this.

Parker can't recruit due to health issues. I'm sorry to see him go before Kok, who probably needs to think about going. Kok can't recruit due to lack of imagination.

Assistants are a full time position, and we do not have some on staff that are full time right now.

The AD does nothing, and is mostly powerless right now.

Some at the U of I Foundation aren't happy, but they have little say.

Sally Mason is 100% on board for whatever Kirk wants.

I could get into more detail, but knowing how the sausage is really made, upsets me horribly, especially after yesterday.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT POST.
Well done, Golfer. I couldn't agree more. Thank you.

You do a great job giving examples of the sarcastic feedback I pointed out earlier.
OK, one more time. You are the AD. Your wish is granted, and you can fire Ferentz today (without paying the balance of his contract) and you must come up with a legitimate hire who would actually take the job.

Who would you hire?

Isn't that the whole point of most of your posts, that you want a coaching change? Who should we hire?

I really think this is a fair question.

Jack, you're taking some heavy pipe for this post! Duck & cover, bro! ;):D

I've been to at least two games per season since 1994 and have been active attending other Iowa sports such as wrestling and basketball, but thanks for assuming.
Since you have been attending since 1994, you have experienced the best period in Iowa football history. You have never experienced prolonged mediocrity in Iowa football. When you make a coaching change, you run that risk (refer to firing of Davis and hiring of alford). You seem to want change, but you have no specifics. What do you recommend? I think it is an honest, fair question. Again, if people view this as hostile, I guess I can live with that. What are the specific recommendations?

I'm not sure that it's a relevant question. First of all because both golfer and myself have stated explicitly that a change at the top isn't the immediate priority. Secondly and hypothetically if it was our agenda, what difference does it make how we answer that question? I would venture to say that Kirk and Fran were not the first names in fans heads when they were going through the hiring process. I would go as far as to say most fans hadn't heard of either before they were considered by the AD. In conclusion, I believe Iowa is an established program with a good track record, facilities and support and would present itself as an attractive destination for many candidates.

I would say the apologist's are the most hostile without a doubt. I don't know if it's fear of the what if this, what if that......who would we get?...etc. that drives their hostility.

OK, Mr. hostility here. I'm back. First or all, sorry to be so hostile. I really feel no hostility toward any of you. I just think that many of you are wrong. I certainly have that right, just as you do to believe that I am wrong. It doesn't offend me in the slightest.

I do get upset when people post opinions that have no basis in fact.

Smoot27 alleges that Ferentz has a poor record in close games. Really? In my world, the definition of a close game is one decided by 8 points or less (one possession). Here is the Ferentz record since 2000 (you draw your own conclusions):

2000 2-3
2001 2-4
2002 3-1
2003 2-0
2004 5-0
2005 0-3
2006 1-3
2007 3-2
2008 2-4
2009 5-2
2010 2-5
2011 2-2

Overall record in close games: 29 wins, 29 losses.

Horrible record? No.

Great record? No.

Acceptable record? In my opinion, yes.

Any Iowa fan who was alive during the Fry era knew who Kirk Ferentz was. Ferentz was the offensive line coach for some of the greatest Iowa teams in history during the 1980s.Bob Bowlsby was quoted as saying that Ferentz was on their short list. Everybody knew who Ferentz was. Did Iowa fans want Bob Stoops at that time? Yes. Was Ferentz an unknown? No way
