Are the KF apologists the most hostile posters?

I think it is the selective logic of those that attack Ferentz that bothers me. Such as your claim that since 2004 we have not been as good. We won a BCS game in 2010! I hate losing as much as anyone and the past two years have been down.

I have been a Hawk fan since 1980 and have seen a lot of ups and downs. I would love to win more. Can the coaching staff improve, sure. However the fools that attack and call for resignations, firings, and say things like the NFL will not want Ferentz now are really clueless and annoying. I am sure Norm is close to retiring and some will get what they want. Our system is about execution. We have not done that well recently. I would love to be in the title hunt every year, but that to this point has not been in Iowa's cards. You have to go back to the 50's and look at a two year stretch to see that in our past. Again I would love to be there every year, but to expect it in my mind is not realistic.

It does not bother me at all to hear people being disappointed when we lose or those who want to win more. It does disappoint to see some of the threads about the coaching staff needing to move on, I am giving up on the staff/team etc.. To each their own, but I do think there are some polar extremes regarding expectations and I am sure there always will be.

"However the fools that attack and call for resignations, firings, and say things like the NFL will not want Ferentz now are really clueless and annoying."

But you see Lifehawk, that's exactly what I'm talking about. If someone disagrees with you they are labeled fools and are both clueless and annoying. I'd refer to that as hostile.

Geesh! If I said you were sensitive, is that hostile?

Yet you affix a negative label to those that have an opinion that differs from yours (see thread title). Are you holding others to a higher standard than what you expect from yourself?

I'm not really bothered by it and you're taking me out of context. I'm just referring to the constant slams and minimizing of differing opinions. We all have different opinions and that's understandable. My opinion is that the overly sensitive people are those who go on the attack everytime someone shares a differing opinion such as criticizing the coaching.

It is not disagreeing with you that causes me to use the word fool. It is the people who call for Ferentz's head, claim he is not a motivator, the game has passed him by, etc.. This to me is personal/attacking and is as hostile as what I am saying. I also find it interesting how a lot of folks that love to be critical don't like it when others are critical of them. Just my observations.

Apologist: a person who makes a defense in speech or writing of a belief, idea, etc.

Fool: a silly or stupid person; a person who lacks judgment or sense.
Clueless: slang helpless; stupid
Annoying: causing annoyance; irritatingly bothersome: annoying delays.

You're right Falsemirage, very similar labels

Our system is about execution. We have not done that well recently. I would love to be in the title hunt every year, but that to this point has not been in Iowa's cards.

There's also been an awful lot of p8ss poor game day coaching the last few years to go with that lack of execution. And yes the fact Ferentz is getting paid 3.8 million for very average results does matter - a lot in fact.

I don't disagree with that, but that has always been the case with this staff. Go back to the 2002 Purdue game. We scored a left them almost two minutes on the clock to almost come back and beat us. We had three time outs, they had 1. We could have ran the clock to 1 second when we went for it and scored on 4th down. Yes, they need to improve on this, but it really is not a new thing, and I agree at times it is frustrating.

I certainly accept criticism. That said, a sports message board is designed for sharing opinions (good and bad) regarding the topic, in this case Iowa football. Besides, it would be boring if we all thought the same.

I also do not equate completely wins with salary. Ferentz makes the U of I a lot of money. His ROI is very good for the U. He still gets mentioned for openings ala Penn State, KC Chiefs, this is still positive exposure for the U. If we have a couple more consecutive average seasons, them maybe not so much. Fans can demand whatever they want, but it is not a money thing in my opinion. Since 2002 we have the 15th best winning percentage, again may change with more average years, but these are the facts. I still want a better product on the field, but am not ready to cut bait yet with this staff.

Now I understand, it's alright to be a labelmonger as long as I use labels that I'm okay with. It's all a matter of degrees.

Some of the opposing posts (opposing the OP), made the argument for the OP.

Just saying.

"Apologist" isn't, by definition, a personal attacking term.

I never thought it was. Being called hostile for posting "and another one jumps off the bandwagon" in response to someone saying they were through with Iowa football, is.

It's fairly obvious that there are more than a few degrees of separation between the examples you alluded to. Besides, I admitted in previous posts that I'm responsible for much of the bad behavior I'm pointing out, so you are wasting your time in attempting to prove a point I've already conceded to before you even entered the conversation. The original intent of my post was referencing the persistant attempts to marginalize with sarcasm, personal attacks, other, any post that appears critical of the coaching staff of the team's direction. Rather than engage the content of the post itself, the replies are directed towards the individual. Nothing more, nothing less.
