Are the KF apologists the most hostile posters?

Reading through the posts that criticize KF's coaching decisions, you immediately find several posts with sarcastic and spiteful replies such as:

"did not read"

"another one off the bandwagon"

"I wish you two were coaching the games."

"I guess I am an expert on girl's field hockey. I mean, if I watch it on TV, then obviously I am just as qualified to coach the team as anyone."

"Yadda yadda blah blah" (My favorite)

"maybe you should start picketing Kinnick Stadium demanding KF be fired."

"go be a clown fan"

Is it not ok to voice frustration with the coaching staff without being labeled a clown or worse if there is such thing? It seems that if we don't accept our marching orders, get in line and call ourselves sheeple, we are lambasted on the board.

I don't want KF fired and it is way too premature to think otherwise. That said, since 2004, we have regularly lost or played to the level of some very bad teams. I think the criticism of the coaching and playcalling is justified and has its place on this forum. If you disagree, feel free to debate otherwise. I'll be the first to admit that some of these posts criticizing the coaching are extreme and in bad taste (including some of my own) but we should start trying to have more substantive debates on these topics rather than only resorting to insults and sarcasm. What frustrates me more than anything, is this idea that if I criticize an element of the team, I am less of a fan for doing so. It's because I'm very much a fan of the team and want to see the best every game.

'go be a clown fan' seems to be the most 'hostile' of all the ones that you posted and in most cases the anti Kirk posters are much more 'hostile'. Now, I will admit that I am still very much a Kirk supporter, but I still think the scales lean toward 'hostile' anti Kirk crowd.

Are they hostile towards the coaching (tone of the post) or towards other posters? There is a difference.

KF Koolaid is a verrry intoxicating substance that often causes delusions of grandeur and extremely defensive behavior on chat boards and in taverns.

This. The majority of people who are criticizing direct their hostility/frustration at the coaches. A good portion of the supporters direct their hostility at the posters daring to criticize.

I haven't bashed on Kirk much this year, in fact I can't remember making many Kirk related posts outside of displaying his record and saying I thought he was a solid B10 coach.

I did bash Kirk after the bowl game last season basically saying it was a wasted season and I got hammered for it.

The most common:

"fail"
"epic fail"

To answer your question. I believe it that KF apologist are the most hostile group.

Followed very closely by the "Pink Army" aka the people who started rooting for Iowa in late October 2002.

I admit to being a member of the "Pink Army". Though to be fair, I was 12 years old at the time :)

I would say the anti Ferentz people are more "hostile". They're also the ones during game threads and the ones right after that have to come here and let everyone know how ****** they are. They are enraged. There's Internet spittle everywhere. It's gross actually.

Do it on the radio, and the U gets you axed. Do it at the I Club, if you can get in a word between them living in the Hayden Fry era, you'll get ripped.

This is true for even the "newer", larger dollar donors. They really get ripped. Get insulted because they're successful I guess.

There needs to be some serious questions asked. And not just on these message boards. Some other places as well.

I'm certainly at fault too. I make some mean spirited posts from time to time, some even geared towards other posters. It's just been a pet peeve of mine that I get made to be a hawk hater of troll just because I get frustrated on gamedays.

I must have a self-esteem problem because I'm not feeling the sense of entitlement that the histrionic crowd seems to have.

And if the examples of the perceived "hostility" in the OP are any indication then the answer is no.

Ya this place is full of internet tough guys. I've lurked around here for a few years now and finally decided to register and start posting this year, it was def a mistake. I'll rarely post out of fear of being ridiculed.

I wish people would be more funny or entertaining with their hostility. Usually it's an unfunny, cliched, personal attack that isn't worth reading.

Perhaps "hostility" can be interchanged with "arrogance/self-righteousness". It's typical not open hostility, but more passive-aggressive stuff, along with a certain degree of smugness (in most cases, anyway).

I don't see the sense of entitlement you speak of. Secondly, the term hostility only represents a fraction of the posts. I believe the others regard sarcasm and attempts to minimize differing opinions.

Good points

Probably won't make you feel better about it but I read your posts and I don't think you're a Hawk Hater or Troll in the least. You do get pretty ****** off though, I'll say that!

You remind me of BSpringsteen a little, simple brutal honesty with some frustration sprinkled in. Sometimes more frustration than others but nothing I would call over the top.

You are labeled the way you are because most people don't like the truth, it hurts too much.

I keep my criticism within Hawk circles. This message board is one of my outlets. When I am around Clown fans who criticize the Hawks I act more like the apologists I'm referring to and get very defensive.
