Are Iowa fans hypocrits on coaching?

I guess the question is, you feel that coaches like Lynch and Fitz are "d-bags" because they are jumping around and yelling on the sidelines. Do you feel the same about Gable and Brands who may be more animated in there coaching?

I also don't buy the comment that they are different sports either so it doesn't matter. Most other college wrestling fans think it is ridiculous how Brands acts and make the same comments regarding their coaching staffs acting calm and professional Iowa football fans use when discussing Ferentz. I think if Iowa had a football coach who acted like Brands and won championships, he would get a pass from you.

I do not watch wrestling...so cannot comment on Brands and Gable.
And I do think that wrestling and bb are different than football in this regard.
Football has so many moving parts, and the view is so distant, that constantly haranging the refs is pointless, usually.
BB and wrestling, the calls are only a few feet away, easy for the coach to see, and working the refs is more expected.

As Fran said the other day, he has only gotten one technical in his career that he did not want. He is a vet coach who knows when to turn up the heat.
Guys like Stoops,Pellini,Lynch, ect have it turned up to volume 11 the whole game...that is their style, but I prefer KF's.
Every sport is different.

Yes. Grown men should act the part. Grown men in leadership roles should exhibit poise and maturity. Especially grown men in charge of young adults. I'm not saying you have go Lickliter Zombie on everybody. I'm saying that the intensity should be calm and focused, not spastic.

They all look stupid when they act like that.

i think its ok to want to have different coaches to act differently in different sports, baseball is different from wrestling which is different than football, which is different than any other sport. not really hipocracy

I didn't IMPLY or state that he didn't have expectations of the team Thawki. When you look at the returning talent on this team and the SCHEDULE at home we should have won 2 of 3 against the big boys and we didn't do it pure and simple. I understand and appreciate KF's cloak and dagger stuff keeping a lid on things but to not be bothered what others expect is pure fantasy that no one appreciates.

I take exception to your characterization of the Iowa fans being emotional, irrational, and fickle. First point of course we're EMOTIONAL we care sorry for caring why watch sports if you don't have some emotion FarmGirl must have never played sports above the elementary school level. Secondly, is it irrational to want to win? I don't think many thought it was realistic that we run the table this year it was a tough schedule but I think we are rational in expecting the coaching staff to manage the end of halves or the end of the game....that's why we pay them sooooo much $$$$$$$$. Third, fickle implies or overtly means that we only like them when they're winning...some of us remember suffering through the era of Bob Cummings and prior and we are STILL HERE so your assertion that Iowa fans are fickle is just plain wrong. If you don't like to discuss things go somewhere else. If you aren't emotional about Iowa athletics why are you on here?

I guess you just don't get it, seepig.

KF probably doesn't care about anyone else's expectations but his and his booss' because they are always higher than anyone else's expectations. If he satisfies them than there is no issue. And if someone else's expectations are unrealistic then there is no need to worry about them in that case either.

You might not like the comment, but it is dead on. He doesn't need to worry about what anyone else expects if his expectations are appropriate.

How can you argue that?

IMO it depends on what the coaches are yelling about. When Brands is yelling at his wrestler coaching him (not chewing his or the ref's ***), I don't think anybody cares if he gets emotional. When Pellini goes ******* on Martinez and officials Sat. night, it's a bit of a different story. And I certainly don't think it's a black and white issue, as the majority of coaches fall somewhere in between being overly stoic or dramatic, but most occasionally lose it when a ref misses an obvious call. That being said, I can't recall the last time Ferentz really cut loose on an official...but I'll say as a fan when he does it gets me going and if I played for him I think I'd definitely feed off that emotion.

I don't disagree with you Thawki and it's best not to read the newspapers if you are a coach or player. You made my point though by stating that KF cares about the AD's expectations....that would be considered outsiders expectations (Barta doesn't live in the locker room). I'm guessing that a couple 6-6 or 5-7 seasons won't get the boosters angry either? If you think that you can just plunk your head in the ground about OTHERS expectations then you don't understand the politics of this particular sport.

Of course we are. But so is every other college fan base in the country.

I wouldn't go that far. Iowa fans have NO idea how lucky we are to have KF, regardless of disappointing seasons. I will continue to believe that KF is one of, if not the best NCAA coach around. Given what he has to work with and where he recruits to, it's amazing we can be a contender year after year.
